A very controversial commercial for PETA starring Alicia Silverstone has hit the airways recently and I am curious what you guys think....

The new ads were set to hit Houston airwaves more than twenty times Wednesday, and PETA claims they chose Houston for the debut because it so often ranks high on lists of cities with the worst eating habits.

Hahaha, if you can't wear fur or eat meat you MUST be naked and look good while being naked!! The ad is silly, it doesn't convince me to be a vegetarian (even though I'm mostly a vegetarian with steak once or twice a month and hormone free/free range chicken a couple of times a week) it just convinces me that I would not be that hot of a vegetarian. She looks great but Peta should stfu. Hahaha.

IT is so much amazing !! that was the last thing that she could say!! the ad is so lame ,and pointless .I totally felt stupid watching it ! i wonder!!!

it's a great commercial, ,maybe the "sex sells" fanatics will get a clue and go vegan. Our family (who were good old American steak and 'tater folk)gave up beef years ago to start on our way to becoming vegans. We feel much better, we still eat fish but we are on our way. We actually feel guilty if some thing had to die to dress our breakfast, lunch or dinner plate. There are so many delicious things to eat in the plant kindom, artichokes, hearts of palm, mixed spring salads, fresh tomatoes, oranges...the entire fruit kingdome....No one needs to kill or any thing needs to die to dress out a plate of food and fill a belly. It bothers me that my old way of 3 square meals a day meant 3 animals or more had to die for my ever expanding gut. I was pathetic. I know much better now. :)

Ok...first off I though PETA stood for People Eat Tasty Animals. So why would a vegetarian support them? OK being seriuos now. I don't get it. Are they going by the whole "Sex sells" thing? Umm..being vegetarian the natural way to be and being naked is natural and... I will say though that I think it was very tastefully done. Will it covince me to become a vegetarian. Nope I eat red meat daily and always will. All it did was reaffirm the fact that I think Alicia Siverstone is a beautiful woman. Though I don't always agree with the things PETA does (I've seen one of their magazines for kids) I guess there are worse organizations she could be supporting.

Cool commercial, very easy sell of the message, no preaching. I'm not a fan of most PETA ads for that preachy reason.

I really don't have much of an opinion, but i just think that if someone doesn't want to be vegetarian then we shouldn't make them be. Ads promoting vegetarianism seem pointless to me, its a personal choice made by each person and it shouldn't be based off of what you see in an ad

What does being a vegetarian have to do with PETA? You can be a vegetarian and not belong to PETA, AND you can belong to PETA and eat meat. PETA claims to be about the ethical treatment of animals, but often forgets PEOPLE are animals, too. How ethical is it to throw paint on a person wearing fur and taking a chance of blinding permanently the person? How ethical is it to cause thousands of dollars of property damage (vandalism) to people legally raising cattle and hogs? How ethical is it? Not all animals we eat are unethically killed. I'm curious how far PETA would get in places like Africa where they kill meat just to survive, day to day. As for the ad, I'm undecided. It will certainly get people talking; I'm just not sure it will get people to become vegetarians.

Why would anyone other than a 13 year old boy be impressed by a naked Aicia Silverstone? I mean, you can find just as nice of bodies on any beach at any time who eat meat. Even former vegan Drew Barrymore started eating meat again a few years ago and says she has never felt better now, and it helped her stay slimmer. All things in moderation is the key. PETA's agenda is no meat, no pets, they killed more dogs/cats last year than Michael Vick, google it: "peta kills animals" and read for yourself, educate yourself about this internal terrorist group and stop supporting it! They want to take away your pets!!!

For me, the acronym PETA means "People Eating Tasty Animals"...yum! Where's that juicy rib-eye with a rack of baby back ribs on the side? And Alicia Silverstone??? A brain-dead, washed-up actress who can't get any gigs other than PETA commercials. She's pretty, but so lacking in gray matter...maybe her mom should've eaten more meat when she was pregnant with Alicia "Dumas"

As an animal rights and environmental activist (the two being really one in the same) and a vegan, I am always supremely disappointed when I see anyone - especially celebrities - supporting PETA. The fact of the matter is PETA has done a lot more to damage the movement than it has to help. Their tactics are too poorly thought out to do anything but alienate people, and they have a public history of funding eco-terrorism (http://www.cnsnews.com/ViewCulture.asp?Page=%5CCulture%5Carchive%5C200203%5CCUL20020308a.html , a little long but one of plenty of articles about their donating money to the Earth Liberation Front and to the defense funds of members of the Animal Liberation Front when they were on trial for ecoterrorist activities). I can only assume that anyone who supports PETA either a) doesn't know how crazy they are (which is my guess in every celebrity's case), or b) thinks for whatever reason that screaming at people, rather than giving them a logical, reasoned argument for their case, is going to get converts. As for the ad, I'm sure it'll get plenty of meat eaters to pay really close attention - to naked Alicia Silverstone.

I'm a vegetarian, but I don't care for the ad. There are several good reasons to switch to a vegetarian diet (if a person wishes to), but looking at a naked celebrity isn't one of those reasons. The objectification angle bothers me, too. If your cause is so good and so worthy, why resort to naked women to sell it? Plus, I'm vegetarian and I don't look like that at all. So sort of false advertising, I guess?

Like most people, I wasn’t always a vegetarian, but I’ve always loved animals. I'm a veg, and i understand some other people's comments on here. Why is a celeb doing this naked? how stupid! = No, not stupid. One, it attracts attention and also i think the message is trying to show us about how much she cares and believes in what she is doing. I appreciate her for doing this, and did you also see the XFUR campaign? this could be another political result. X

I did not eat red meat for about 7 months... then I went back to meat... I must say I was much leaner back then, and I felt "healthier"... I must admit that now it would take a lot to get me to leave meat again, I like it... The ad is a bit ambiguous, but I think it´s great that Alicia is promoting what she believes in, even if it is in such a weird way...

It never aired down here. Along with their meat, Houstonians also like their religion and propriety... Big deal--someone showing their bum on TV. You see nudity in Europe all the time in ads and movies and no one cares or feels that their kids brains have been sullied...

Truly funny - just saw Alicia last week in LA in the offices where I was interviewing. One she was covered in acne from scalp to neck - and had zero makeup on (which is the best way to let your face heal when you have a bad outbreak but according to PETA spiel only we Omnis get acne). Two she was either extremely bloated or out of shape, which as I understood from the folks I was interviewing with (a talent agency off Wilshire) is how she normally looks. When I saw this ad I thought "Wow, airbrushing and colonics work wonders!" Not, vegetarianism is great. The chick veggie or not still isn't eating healthy or exercising regularly. French fries and chips do not a healthy meal make.

I agree with what a few of you have already said, what does being nude and sexy have to do with not eating meat? Perhaps they are trying to say that if you become a vegetarian, you too could look like Alicia Silverstone... IF you also have a personal trainer or access to a gym or time in your schedule to devote hours a day to your workout regime (not to mention a team of video editors to smooth away any imperfections with photoshop). She is a beautiful woman and vegetarianism is a wonderful, healthy thing, but I think the connection between the two is missing the mark a bit. Then again, here we are, 85+ posts deep, discussing it... maybe they didn't get it so wrong after all?

I think, in the media world today, there are some false idea/image associations... and PETA uses it (Like other company). Don't like that. It's sad to use false images for an Association... Its goal should be to convince with real argument... not photoshopped naked woman!

i don't get why she's naked if she's promoting vegetarianism. i could understand if it was an anti-fur ad, but i don't see the connection w/ vegetarianism. do only meat eaters wear clothes now a days? ;)

I saw the print ad today in a UK newspaper. It didn't really grab me. It doesn't tell me anything about WHY I should be a vegetarian. I was a vegetarian for three years, just to see what benefit it would give me. It didn't give me any benefit and I feel so much better now that I am eating meat again. It is just naked for the sake of naked. Did somebody memo PETA about how sex sells or what?
