Working at a desk job? You're certainly not alone. Unfortunately, all that sitting and not moving much is contributing to the rise in national obesity. To combat the problem, many companies are designing desks that are attached to treadmills, like the TreadDesk, but they're so pricey that most people wouldn't dare splurge on one.

I found a cheaper solution though: the AirDesk ($189). It's a stand that holds your laptop, and it rests on the floor so you can use it with either a treadmill, elliptical, stationary bike, or StairMaster. It's a brilliant idea for anyone who works from home but isn't happy about having to sit in front of her computer all day. It allows you to stretch your muscles and burn calories, and it may even help you think more clearly. Could you ever see yourself using this?

I guess you wouldn't really be doing sweat sessions whilst "working from home" but I do worry about the moisture and the laptop. It scares me.
1I wish we had something like these at our gym at school. It's midterm week and probably a good 40% of the people on any of the cardio machines were attempting to read while working out. It was a little tricky and I didn't get as great of a workout as I would have otherwise but I figured it at least beat sitting at the library. If I were able to do all my work on my laptop while walking on the treadmill like this i definitely would try it!
2I prefer keeping those activities separate. Part of the reason I do workout is because it gives me time away from work or school and helps relieve my stress. If I were trying to be both at the same time I would probably not be doing either activity very well which would just frustrate me. Plus working out for me requires a much higher intensity that wouldn't allow for simultaneous reading or looking at my computer.
3I understand though that there are people who don't have as much free time as I do though so if you are coordinated enough to do both on the days you are really pressed for time, then more power to you. I just wouldn't make it your regular workout routine.
My workout time is my personal non-work time...I always leave my BlackBerry in my locker so it doesn't interfere with my workout. I also don't think that I could really workout to my full potential while working on a laptop. I guess it might be useful if someone works at home and wants to be active while working in addition to a more high impact workout...
4Gym time is me time... no thanks!
5I can't imagine being that productive on work while I'm working out.. It takes too much concentration- isn't it better to just do a shorter, more intense workout? I could see myself using this device though- to watch movies
6I wouldn't be able to focus if I were on my laptop and the treadmill at the same time. The time I spend working out is "me" time and I like having the break from the computer every so often.
7some of my best studying is done while i workout
8I like to focus on my body. This ain't for me.
9I want this. I wouldn't work while working out as much as I would catch up on all my RSS feeds and my own personal computer time. Plus I could watch a movie from my MacBook Pro.
10I would do this separate from my actual work-out.
11I can see how getting up on occasion to walk and work simultaneously would be nice, but when I work out, that's what I'm doing, and IMHO, if you can "work out" while "working" you're not doing either hard enough.
I see this as a separate thing. I would still spend my time at the gym, but this would be nice to have when I am spending a lot of time on the computer and want to quit sitting down, but can't leave the computer.
12i want one.
13I personally think it woul be hard to do both but it works for some people!
14I personally think it would be hard to do both but it works for some people!
15I think its an interesting concept to kill two birds with one stone...but it personally isn't for me. I'll be keeping them separate.
16I'm with those who say that gym/workout time is separate from work time. Even though I don't work, I don't plan meals or do other of my "household manager" duties while working out. I focus on my body, making the mind muscle connection as much as possible, or do some deep thinking about life/self in general but it's not planned times when that happens it just happens.
Plus this just doesn't seem very safe to me, I can see someone getting caught up in what they're doing on the computer and lose balance or something on the cardio machine and end up hurting themselves.
Not for me either.
17Whatever. I bump, sway and wobble so much in my stride that my ear bud headphones can barely stay in. Forget about reading and/or typing!
'Sides, I get on the treadmill to *escape* work. Heehee.
18I feel like when one is working out hard enough to break a sweat and burn a good amount of calories it's very hard to do things like read or work. I guess maybe on a bike it's different but I have trouble doing much of anything on a treadmill!
19This is like people that literally have a book in their hand while walking on the treadmill... it boggles my mind.
20HOW can people do this? I can't even watch tv and run on a treadmill without being in danger of veering to the side and tripping!
21no.. i'm quite a Ms. Multitask
but not to this extent
22No thanks! A) I'm not that coordinated and B) I like to not think about work while working out
23No thanks, how much of a working can you be getting if you're doing that at the same time?
