Salads are a staple of healthy eating.
They are a great way to increase your veggie intake, and if you are trying to lose weight they are one of those high density foods that fill you up without a lot of calories. Let's face it, salad greens by themselves can get a bit dull. Plus you need to add fat and protein to make sure the salad keeps you full, especially if it is your main course.
I have become bored lately with my salads and need your help to make my salad tasty, appetizing, and nutritionally well rounded. So please pimp my salad! Starting with the salad greens of your choice, tell me your favorite salad. Leave your suggestions in the comment section below.

red pepper
broccoli
avocado
salmon pouch/cup
ground flax seed
Simple, but works for me for a routine. I tend to add or change my daily lunch of salad every now and then. I used to use carrots, but I've tried to stay more low carb.
Lately I like to put a little lemon juice on the salmon, and then add blue cheese dressing and red hot sauce. The hot sauce might sounds strange, but it actually adds enough of a kick to curb my appetite.

Is it possible to overdose on healthy salads? I guess so because I seem to have lost all desire for any combination and have switched to this:
steamer bag mixed veggies (any kind you want) but my favorite is broccoli+red peppers+onions
half a package of crab chunks
1-2 tbsp of fat free honey mustard
sprinkle of crumbled feta
and a dash of hot pepper sauce
YUMMMMY!

Crumbled gorgonzola
Grilled chicken
Cooked beets
Dressing: balsamic vinegar and raspberry jam (it sounds even weirder but it's REALLY good and almost no calories!)
Lettuce is so boring by itself....
15There's this other salad I make when I'm being good and everyone's eating pizza:
Red leaf lettuce
Turkey pepperoni
Marinated artichoke hearts

Red pepper flakes
After you mix it together and let it sit, it doesn't even need dressing.

Tuna (half a can)
Salsa as dressing
Tbsp ground flax seed
I also love the salad Urth caffe makes:

20ground turkey with taco seasoning, green mix, diced onions, cilantro, and salsa!
21Red leaf lettuce
Purple cabbage (slivered)
Sunflower sprouts (they're bigger than traditional sprouts, and not as "earthy" tasting)
This is the PERFECT base for a salad, no matter what else you put on it. I love it because I know I'm getting a variety of nutrients (it's so colorful!), before I even add anything else on.
22I think the perfect way to pimp your salad is to create your own salad dressing. It's way cheaper and healthier and you know the actual ingredients in it.
Here's my fave salad - arugula, parsley (flat leaf), fresh cilantro, cherry tomatoes, fresh grated parm cheese, red onion slices, a few slices of red and yellow peppers.
Pour in some red wine vinegar, olive oil, fresh squeezed lemon juice, salt, pepper, and some dry ranch packet (Random, I know, but it tastes great).
Mix it all together!

Speaking of pimping....some MSNBC anchor said that Hillary Clinton was "pimping" Chelsea to call super delegates. Now she doesn't want to debate on MSNBC anymore.
35Lettuce
Spinach
Arugula
Diced onions
Bamboo Shoots
Tomatoes
Cucumber
Cashews and Almonds
A sprinkle of chopped garlic (not too much)
Chopped rosemary
and my homemade dressing: red wine vinegar, a little olive oil, and some basil and oregano

36This is the best post ever. I'm always looking for better salads.

38When I ate dairy I loved putting feta on my salads. The only annoying thing about salad making is the brevity of produce being fresh, chopping and storing the veggies. Oftentimes I go to a gourmet grocery store and attack the salad bar-so many choices organic produce, all really fresh and delicious!
This salad focuses more on fruit rather than veggies and it may sound odd but it is SO flavorful and reminds me of summer.
*Romaine lettuce
*Grilled chicken
*Strawberries
*Blueberries
*Mandarin orange
*Pineapple wedges
*Poppy seed dressing (just a little...you don't need much with all the fruit)
*Walnuts

I like to add whole cherry or snack tomatoes instead of regular sliced ones to my salads once in a while: they're like flavor bombs that really add some character to your salad! Plus they're perfect for when you pack a salad 'to go' since they're not leaky.
