This is kind of surprising to me. I knew about the protein, but I didn't really know why. It would be really great if you would follow up quizzes like this with suggestions for a meal or a snack or something.
1I already knew that - also one high in fiber helps!
2I beg to differ. If my diet was high in protein, my body naturally CRAVES other food groups (because my body needs them). My brain would think about other foods CONSTANTLY.
To quiet my brain and satisfy my hunger, I must eat meals that are balanced (and nutritious).
Just my experience.
3Yep, for my body the study is spot on.
4I increased protein to my diet a few years back with excellent results. Also, whenever I feel the need to have something extra while out, I'll grab some non fat milk/yogurt in a deli or cottage cheese doubles w/ fruit. Works every time.
yee-haw! that was easy
5oh.. so protein is THAT good eh
6Protein - yea, that's what us gastric bypass patients are told over and over again it is most important to our long term health and satiety. And I swear those days when I feel stupid and lazy and go "eh I'm eating my veggies first or eating my barley before I eat my protein won't harm anything" - I pay. Then I'm looking for something more satisfying for my next meal but I cannot eat anything more satisfying because those other foods are still taking up too much room in my stomach and digestive tract.
But if I have protein first I like the ultimate machine - I am satisfied with very little food. My body runs longer between meals on a smaller amount of food. I am only eating 3-4 ounce meals a day plus 2 scheduled 2 to 3 ounce protein/complex carb snacks and/or 1-8 ounce protein fruit shake. All told I consume about 1000 calories and absorb less than that - but I'm thriving. When I switch that and drop below the 40/30/30 ratio - I pay.
For me it's not cravings or fat content- because I'm not craving anything that I'm not already eating (its more hmmm wonder what fish meatballs in marinara taste like) and I eat low to non-fat its mid to high protein foods forcing my digestive tract to work hard to breakdown foods before releasing chemicals to ask for more food.
