If you've been focusing on getting 10,000 steps per day to keep up with your weight-loss goals then this news is not going to make you happy. New research has found that the one size fits all number of 10,000 steps per day is just not cutting it anymore. Here are the new guidelines for how many steps per day people should accumulate for weight control:
- Women:
Age 18-40: 12,000 steps per day
Age 40-50: 11,000 steps per day
Age 50-60: 10,000 steps per day
Age 60 plus: 8,000 steps per day - Men:
Age 18-50: 12,000 steps per day
Age 50 +: 11,000 steps per day
So time to dust off the old pedometer and make sure you're getting enough steps in your day.

12,000...hmm i wonder is I actally walk that much...

Sheesh, and I have a tough time keeping up with 10,000 steps per day since I'm not up for doing a long walk before I leave for work at 5am or after I get home from work at 8pm. I don't wear it at the gym though, so I guess I get plenty on those days, but on my off days... this is bad news indeed.
2Can't wait to hit 40 so I can drop down to only 11,000 steps. Wonder why the drop in number with that age.
3i need a pedometer. i know i definetly don't take 12k steps a day. Maybe when i', on the treadmill, but i don't want to count that. Booo.

10Not much of a difference, but it doesn't make sense to me: as we get older, our metabolim slows down, so logically we should have to do MORE, not less steps to stay in shape... how come the number of steps per day goes down with age?
11figures! i have been trying to make 12,600 steps for the last few months , today i have made 10,971 steps as of right now. normally i can make 11,000 and change. it figures that they up the amount of steps a woman my age should make to 12,000 instead of the normal 10,000. i guess i have to aim for 13,000. wish me luck.
