Cellulite is one of those hateful subjects that women just love to talk about. Why? Because almost every woman has those little pockets of fat somewhere on her body. Super bad a** trainer Jillian Michaels believes 95 percent of all women have the stuff. Although you cannot get rid of cellulite, you can get off your back side and do something about the state of your backside.
Here are Jillian's simple recommendations for dealing with cellulite.
- You can reduce the appearance of cellulite by losing weight and building up the muscles underneath your fat tissue.
- Good exercises for building muscle in your back side are squats and lunges.
Could this advice be coming from someone who has cellulite, too? To find out, just read more.
Jillian told iVillage:
Ninety-five percent of women suffer from cellulite, including me. Honestly, at some point we have to embrace our imperfections. They make us human. Who wants perfect? Perfect is boring!
Have you accepted your cellulite? Tell me all about it in the comments section below.

She's right! It is a fact of life, but it's good to know we can do something about it. I've been doing the Les Mills programs (BodyPump, BodyVive and BodyCombat) for a while now and let me tell you, BodyPump has A LOT of squats and lunges and I've seen the difference in the appearance of the cellulite on the back of my thighs - there is Hope!
1Yea, whatever!
2If a guy won't date a girl cuz she has a little bit of cellulite he's pretty damn shallow and doens't even deserve her!
i want to go ahead and accept myself, but when you can see the dimples in your rear through the back of your dress pants, it's time to either get some spanks or start working out. (speaking from experience). I will not accept butt dimples that can be seen through clothes. thanks for the advice!
3I have, I mean everyone has SOME so I mean-who cares.
4Ugh, squats and lunges are two of my least fav. things to do exercise wise.
Does anyone else find that cardio helps with the appearance of cellulite as well?
5I guess I'm one of the 5% that doesn't have any, honestly. Of course, I can make A dimple appear, but that's only if I'm squeezing my thigh together with both hands...then maybe.
6fashionhore, cardio can help because it can reduce body fat, but building the muscle + doing the cardio is the best way.
7I've heard that brushing your skin in and upward motion towards your heart can help. You can get "dry brushing" brushes at The Body Shop and places like that.
8no! i hate my dimples!
9I am in the 5% who doesn't have it.. yay!
10I have LOTS of it and my 5'7 130 lbs. I dont want to lose anymore weight! Anyway, last Aug I took up an African Dance class and kickboxing and it has helped toned my body, with that the cellulite seems to be going away.
So yea, cardio helps. Try running, that really helps too.
11"You can reduce the appearance of cellulite by losing weight and building up the muscles underneath your fat tissue."
I agree with this completely. Because of this, visibly, I practically have no cellulite.
Fashionhore, yes, cardio helps some. As mentioned, cardio plus some muscle conditioning exercises (weight training, swimming, etc.) makes the biggest difference. Plus, I find that weight training sculpts the body in a flattering way - shapely arms and legs, small waist, lifted butt, etc. Can't beat that.
12Being thin doesn't make any difference. I'm 5'7, 115lb at the most, fit and toned and I've still got it. In fact, I've noticed that if I gain weight I don't have as much. Strange, huh??
13Yep i have ceullulite. but i noticed that workoing out, cardio and strength traing have helped reduce their appearance. i do squats and lunges everyday throughout the day.
squatting at my desk right now
14I don't have it, thankfully; however, I am apple shaped. Boooo
15I'm pear shaped and I have it on my outer thighs.. ugh it sucks!
16I guess I'm in the 5% that doesn't have it either. I credit that to running a lot, which builds up my glutes, quads, and hamstrings plus all the cardio reduces the total amount of fat on my legs. I wonder if I'd get cellulite if I had more fat on my legs, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I won't.
17I *was* part of that 5% however I lost weight once (and I didn't need to!) and I think I lost some muscle because once I gained weight back is one I developed the dreaded cellulite, but it's not a lot so I'm not going to complain I just notice it.
18the only area i have cellulite is on the upper part of the back of my thighs. but i am so afraid that it's going to spread!
19Cellulite is actually only 'ugly' because we hear negative stuff about it in the media all the time. When I was a child, I thought cellulite on women looked exotic and beautiful. Of course, I didn't know what it was called or what it was caused by, but somehow I thought it's something that all mommies should have. When I was a teenager the media 'helped revise' my opinion about cellulite and I started fearing it like the rest of the world. But if you think about it, 95-98% of the women of the world have it, so it absolutely can't be ugly!!! When I realised this, I stopped using and threw away all of my anti-cellulite creams, masks, massaging gadgets, etc. (and I don't have that much of it on my butt!) and adopted the philosophy that if I will be healty and fit, my butt will be fit too!
Another important point: if cellulite is impossible to get rid of, then why are there so many products out there to battle it? Why is it ALL OVER the media? The answer is, it's BECAUSE it's impossible to get rid of! Women will always have it, hence there will always be a market for it = $$$$$$!
I don't know about you ladies, but every singe anti-cellulite product I've ever used has left me with even more on my butt. I'm sticking to just excersise now.
20I've also read that in addition to cardio & weight training, drinking lots of water will help, as it keeps the skin supple and helps to flush out the bloat that may cause more of the fat to push up against your skin (and thus, forcing cellulite to appear worse).
So drink plenty of water while you work out, ladies!
21I read that swimming is great, as the water works like a massage.
As for me, I will never accept in myself:
- major overweight
- laziness
- long-term unhealthy lifestyle
But cellulite... give me a break! Don't we have enough things to worry about already?

When I first saw Jillian Michaels, I thought it was a REALLY bad picture of Stacey London...
23I don't have cellulite, I think it's genetic and the fact that I work out a bit.. I naturally have very low body fat.. But it's not that great because I still don't have boobs and I'm 28.. so I guess I'll stop waiting for them to grow at this point
24I just wanted to say that I am comfortable with my cellulite. I have always had stertch marks being 140 standing 6 feet tall, the cellulite came as I stop being as active aas I was running track and playing basketball. That's all we ever did was work on lower and upper body. The only thing that I am self conscious about is my thighs. I just had my second child 5 months ago, and still look great in anything, short tight whatever, but the bathing suits and night gear for my man is what I want to feel good about being in.
25i hate cellulite .. i've heard that if you cut out or cut back on caffeine that it reduces the appearance of cellulite because caffeine thins the skin and makes it more visible .. i'm not sure if that's true or not but i feel like i've seen a difference since i've cut back on the chocolate and started drinking caffeine free soda!
26This is one stupid b*tch, well more Ugly then anything
27she's right...building muscle back there will definitely improve it...there's no miracle cure
