So I came across this new "Ceinture de surveillance" or weight monitoring belt that is made like a measuring tape you wear around your waist so you (and everyone else) can know where you're at, inches wise, each and every time you wear it.

This belt will never ever be gracing my belt loops, but someone must have seen a need in the market to produce it in the first place. So, is this belt a tool you'd find motivating of scary in your own weight loss endeavors?

I could use it to just measure my waistline but I would NEVER wear it in public!!!
1CRAZY.
2Umm ya..
3yeah, I would never wear that in public. I think that kind of information is personal.
4I wouldn't wear this in public, but I think it is very motivational. I mean, you put it on in your house, I am willing to bet you make smarter choices because instead of pretending "just one more" bad choice won't hurt, it is right there for you to see. And, it would be a great way to keep up with your progress as it would measure you the same almost everytime, and you wouldn't have to be as hung up on the scale numbers.
5A tracking tool for personal use - yes.
For all to see - oh hell no.
6I am not sure if I want everybody to know my size, but it is quite motivating for someone with courage
7ahhhh i dunno
8i already weigh myself everyday
lol i dont need something around my waste so i can always see!
I'm not perfect, so I think If I wore this belt it would be more of a statement that says "I'm OK with me and my 32" waist, I don't have to lie or suck it in, and hey, I still look good!" Rather than a very thin woman going around "Oh, me and my 24" inch waist, poor me, I'm fat and apparently self-delusional, pay attention to me!" It actually poses a lot of interesting questions about body image. I find it kind of fascinating.
9This would drive me crazy if I wore this.
10Motivational in the sense it would encourage you to diet and exercise incessantly in the hopes of lowering the number even more... but scary in that it could have severe consequences for self-esteem even if you aren't too big - and could lead to eating disorders etc....
11Meh i dunno...probably motivating...but it would be embarassing walking around with that on!
12This sounds soooooooo "hollywood" ...not a good thing.
13I've seen people use tape measurers as belts before. I think people wouldn't use this as (public) motivation, but rather for a fashion statement or personal statement like LJDP said.
14i'd use it
15but never in public
unless i was a super skinny minnie
I like the concept, but I would never wear such a thing. For me it would be nice to know on weigh in days what my waist did in that same week span. My belt has gromets all the way around it anyhow, and I just look to see where I am wearing my belt for personal satisfaction on my hard work. I'm down 4 gromets since the summer, and that's motivational enough for me!
16I think the belt is rather ugly looking and the concept is pretty icky too (although having a large waist is an indicator of risk for heat attack right?)
17It would be motivating when I am at home. It's too flashy to go out in public with though.
18Is this for real? Seems like another way to promote insecurity among the ladies...
"Oh, you're all the way at 31 inches? I'm at 29."
19as if women don't have enough pressure to be thin to conform to size ideals as it is! terrible!!!
20while i'd never wear it, i think it would be motivating!
21LOL
22It's just not attractive, useful maybe if it doesn't stretch.
The only time I get to wear regular clothes I don't want to be wearing something hideous and more distracting than my current crop of bad clothing.
This belt is like some horrible girl scout crafts accident.
23I would never let anyone see my waist size! That's horrible. It's sort of like putting the size of your jeans on your butt for everyone to see.
24I stopped weighing myself since years, and the last time I took my "measures" was also years ago and was very thin that time, now I go by sizes! I'd be glad if I lost more but it's ok the way I am, don't wanna gain more tho'..
25surely you can wear it so it doesnt show to everyone. It's a helpful tool for yourself to see if you actually lose any weight
26YIKES!! I am sweating just thinking about the added inches from the cloth... egads.
perhaps I live in denial, but at least I am happy!!!
27No way. Not only is it ugly, it exploits women and their pressures to be thin. Or hey, it may do the reverse for "big and beautiful" women. Either way, bad idea. Do you know how many unwarranted EATING DISORDERS this could trigger?!?!
