If you're looking to take the first steps to losing weight at the gym but haven't tackled the whole eating part of the equation, then this simple tip might be just what you need. Instead of altering the way you eat entirely at first, start by cutting out 100 calories a day from your diet. 100 Calories a day is so easy to do since it seems like nothing. However, in the grand scheme of things 100 calories per day for one year is over ten pounds.
For a little list of foods that are around 100 calories then read more.
100 Calorie Foods:
- 1 Tablespoon butter
- 4 Hershey's Kisses
- 1 Cup Coca-Cola
- 1/2 Strawberry Pop-Tart
- 2 Fig Newtons
- 1.5 Tablespoons Ranch salad dressing
So take a look at your food journal so you can figure out where you have room to cut something around 100 calories — pay special attention to the extras like dressings, butters, etc.

I've kept a food journal for 3 weeks now, it's AWESOME. It really helps me to control what I'm eating, not mindlessly munch. It's important to be accountable to someone too though. I might cheat if no one was checking my journal, so I bring it to my trainer so he can critique what I'm eating.
1Simple tip...
2Great, love it....something EVERYone can naturally, easily do.
3Oh noes, ranch is that bad? Hmm. I wonder if it would be gross if I mixed it with fat free Italian.
4i have a hard time understanding how cutting 100 calories per day = 10 pounds in a year. is it 10 pounds lost? or 10 extra pounds not gained? and doesn't it depend on eating the exact same amount of calories every day and expending the exact same amount of energy every day? i understand fundamentally that it is a good idea and of course can only help, but i get confused by claims like that.
5Maybe we could eliminate those 100 calorie snacks you've been advertising!
6facin8me, I had the exact same thought! : )
7same thought facin8me...seems logical
8The best and most healthy thing one can do is eat right and not eat crap. Nutritional shakes are great because they include so much good stuff. Go to your drug store and see what you can find. I get mine from http://www.herbalbuddy.com because they taste great and have great ingredients to help keep us healthy.
9I know a super easy way to cut 100 calories! Ditch those cruddy 100 Calorie candy bars.
Hehe, sorry, couldn't resist.
I agree that it is the little things that add up!
10Does anyone know if your body adjusts to this over time though? Like if you are eating the normal amount of calories for a woman (just say 1500) and then you cut to 1400, you will have benefits for awhile, but then your body will adjust to getting 1400, so the benefit stops or you have to cut to 1300? Does this only work if you are eating above the range for your height/weight?
If anyone knows more it would be a great help.
11hmm that would be impossible for me to know if i was doing it right unless I was on Weight Watchers. But puts a couple things in perspective.
