I Don't Buy It: Kinoki Foot Pads

Interested in detoxing your body and getting rid of just about every bad thing that could possibly be stored in your system? Well the makers of Kinoki Foot Pads have something to get rid of all the toxins we get from our food, water, and air. They claim that if you wear these pads while you sleep (sounds comfy), they'll cure problems like insomnia, depression, and headaches by removing heavy metals, metabolic wastes, parasites, chemicals, and cellulite from your body. Wait — cellulite too? So if I wear these things on my feet, the fat from my booty will get sucked right out and onto these foot pads? Sounds like they've discovered the cure for obesity. If these things work so well, why don't they make Kinoki body pads?

Get Flash to see this player.

The commercial mentions that one independent study was done to prove how effective these are. I'd love to see the actual data instead of some tiny chart on the screen showing "lab results." They cost $19.99 for 14 pads, and they'll send you a free supply for life. What's up with that? I'm thinking that if these things really got rid of toxins and cured migraines, depression, and back pain, you'd be sharing your lifetime supply with all your friends and relatives. Is this too hard to believe, or do you think these things may actually work?

I don't know about these either. But something is coming out of you, I guess, because they turn black overnight. And yeah, if they work on your metabolism and cellulite, I'll wear them on my tummy and legs! Smiling

Those things are BS. The black stuff on the pad is just dirt and sweat from slapping a thick pad on the bottom of your foot.

And seriously, ions are just charged molecules. It's either missing an electron or has an extra one, making it positively or negatively charged. So what kind of ions are they talking about? It could be any element of the period table that makes up the bulk of these awesome 'ions'.

Just say no to infomercial scams!

Oh yeah I heard about these before. I know someone who has used it before and they said it did work. I don't think it does EVERYTHING it says it would do, but I'm pretty sure it has some benefits.

i saw these commercials, and although i'm highly suspicious of these types of things, i found this interesting. their claims HAVE to be exaggerated, but i still want to research them more thoroughly. i know the feet are pretty absorbent and can get parasites, so i can see the possibilities...

    must.. research...!!

i like how they use a tree as an example of how it works on people.
last time i checked, my physiology was a lot different than that of a tree.

i just saw this infomercial and was hoping that youd do a post! part of me wants to believe that it works, because there definitely are a lot of toxins in our bodies.

it looks to me like sticking an always pad on your feet. i bet it's the same thing.

These commercials are played constantly on the network, LOGO...

And from what I understand the color change is really just a chemical in the paper reacting with the oils on your skin -- completely bogus!

For those interested, when a commercial cites "Independent Study" it means that the "Study" was conducted without the affiliations of a major research center university or government agency. Therefore, independent + study = BOGUS!!

ummmm, how bout a load of junk as well as crap and such. i'm sorry feet sweat, that makes things you put on them dirty, ie black. plus heavy metals dont jsut "leach" out through the feet, are they made out of magnets?

Ok, heres the deal. I bought the Avon version of these well before this Kinoki stuff came out and I didn't even try them until I saw this infomercial... the first day I felt a little more perky (I know, it was probably all in my head) but otherwise it was business as usual.
The Avon ones were comfy on the foot and have a slight warming feeling while on but the next morning those pads were sooo stinky! I don't know if it rid my body of any toxins or not but I gave it a whirl.
I doubt I will do it again unless Avon or someone can prove to me that the stuff in the pads was more than just sweat caused from the heating sensation after application.

Every time I see this infomercial I laugh out loud. And I wander if any of those people ever wash their feet before they go to bed because its DIRT they're getting on those pads.

I know that there is Eastern medicine that does really work but its not mass marketed like this because you cannot capture the chi in that manner.

There's a limited number of ways that toxins can leave your body... they don't magically exit through the bottoms of your feet! They exit in the form of waste products - i.e. when you go to the bathroom!

clairent, ITA! There is nothing special about these foot pads, except that they're kinda pricey! It's just a waste of money. Try living healthy in everything you do rather than trying to put pieces of cloth or whatever on your feet! So silly!

that sounds creepy and crappy, I don't buy it at all...and I wont buy it ever.
I think someone just rubbed some coal on the foot pad before taking it off....good job.

maybe there is something beneficial in wearing foot pads? maybe your feet are just more comfortable, and therefore you feel better. Smiling i mean, people generally feel better when they wear comfortable shoes!

my cousin and her friends swear by these things and have been using them for years. my sister bought them a few months back and when she used them, they were black in the am and smelled pretty bad. and it wasn't because her foot was dirty, as someone posted.

so, i dont know what the heck they do. but they do do something

I think there is a similar foot bath technique out there too. There is an electric charge in the water that causes color change depending on what is leeched out of your feet, or something like that...

I've seen the foot bath at my chiropractor's office. He used it on a lot of his patients but not me. The water did change colors due to a chemical reaction, but whether that was from "toxins" or the contents of the foot bath, I don't know. I think it was just the electrical charge in the bath. There was an accompanying video, but it didn't explain it enough to satisfy me that there was anything to it.

I'd like to know exactly what parasites would leave your body in this manner. I guess the pads are so powerful they suck the little tapeworms right out of your intestines and through your skin?

    I call SHENANIGANS!

I saw this infomercial and searched it out online. I came across a competing company that explains out how these foot pads work (they apparently are from traditional chinese medicine, etc.). You only wear them at night and it claims that the herbal substance in the pads helps rid the body of toxins. This company also claims their product to be the best, and that if the foot pad turns black (like the ones in the infomercial) it is because the ingredients in the pad were of substandard quality.

What is in them is a variety of herbal stuff like plant alcohols, etc. In theory, it seems like it would work, but I can't imagine it doing much more than boosting/assisting your lymph nodes in the lower extremities, thereby helping to get the toxins up towards your kidneys and out of your body. I think they even said on the website that the strange colors are merely a chemical reaction with the sweat + herbal substances (not from "dirt" being released by your body).
