We all know that music is a great motivator when it comes to sticking it out in a long, hard workout, be it a few miles on the treadmill or the New York Marathon ( check out Katie Holmes wearing headphones, even though they were banned from the race). According to a recent story in The New York Times, there is some science behind creating a workout play list. Try to match the beats per minute (BPM) of your music to your target heart rate. Essentially, you are looking for music that is 120 to 140 BPM; most dance music and a lot of rock songs fit this parameter. Not sure what your target heart rate is? Check out my calculator.
So rock out and run on!

man, if I put forth even a half assed effort, my bpm is 170... which is probably why I'm in the process of seeing a cardiologist
1FitSugar, that's a really cool calculator! I'm going to print out the info so I can always remember how many calories I should intake to maintain my weight. Thanks!
