"I like the taste of fast food too much to give it up."

Surprisingly enough, the United States is not the country who takes the title of biggest fan of fast food in the world. In the United Kingdom, 45 percent of people agreed with the statement "I like the taste of fast food too much to give it up", compared to 44 percent in the US. Does that warrant a w00t, w00t? Well, it is only one percentage point but at least it is something.
Regardless, I am curious about you guys and how you would respond to the statement, so: "I like the taste of fast food too much to give it up" — agree or disagree?

If you actually can ween yourself off fast food and on to high quality foods. Then you taste fast foods again I think you'll find as I did long ago that the only thing fast food have going for them is "mouth appeal". Their fat ratio makes their "mouth appeal" desirable but there is no real flavor, no taste, no punch - just blah, which is why people eat it so fast and pass up eating cold fast food. Cold fast food tastes like what it is cold fatted cardboard.
1I disagree. The only time I would NEED fast food is when I am far from home and want something safe and familiar. Though the word safe might be a far fetch.
2Uhh no...
3I gave up fast food for 1.5 years. It's not that hard. Now though- i only allow myself to eat it once a month max- if that. And when I do it's usually a Happy Meal.
4I do actually like the taste of fast food, but I gave it up, so clearly there's one right answer here.
I was hooked on McDonald's for a while and I felt that the best way to get it out of my system entirely was to just stop eating it; so I did, and I really don't
miss it at all. I'd be really reluctant to eat there and would only do it if I was with a group of people I didn't know very well and they all decided that was where we would eat. Same goes
for Wendy's, Taco Bell, Chipotle, all of those... Every so often I kind of miss them, but I don't crave them anymore, thank goodness!
The main appeal is all the salt, anyway.
5I find that I am more addicted to the convenience of fast food rather than the taste. When I do crave it, and give in I remember that I don't really like it all that much.
Now, contrary to that statement I do eat at Wendy's every day. It's not what you think though. I get a chives baked potato and mandarin oranges for lunch. For $2.49 I can eat a 360 calorie meal with limited fat (I just use the teensiest bit of the butter and sour cream that come with the tater). I get this because I don't have the time to make a baked potato for lunch as my hour is filled getting my son to his after school program. So really it's all about the convenience! If I was at home, I'd make the same exact thing.
6I never eat fast food here in the UK. I've lived here for about 2,5 years but I'm from Sweden. I don't really like food that hasn't been cooked by myself/friends/family. It just never tastes as nice, or is that healthy anyway. There are WAY too many fast food places around here. It's really depressing seeing what kind of food at lot of parents give their children to bring as a school lunch...
7I'm vegetarian... I guess i'm lucky.
8It's called SELF CONTROL! Give it up for 3 months and trust me, you'll forget the taste!
9I do like the taste of fast food... not enough to eat it all the time though I very very rarely eat it though- I want to say like once a year Ill get wendy's or burger king and its delicious but I seriously feel like Im going to throw up immediatly after....
10I think its the additives that people like the taste of. Once you pratice some self control you'll find yourself wanting it less and less and high-quality food more and more.
About now the only things I feel like I still have a desire for are McDonald's french fries (which I swear are laced with crack) and popeye's cajun rice (same as mcDonald's.)
11It tastes awful! Your fingers are all greasy and everything is salty! No thanks! And trust me, i've had my share of fast food in the past years!
Honestly, i consider it to be extremely inconvenient and i do not have time for it.
12If you would have asked me this 4 months ago, I would have said AGREE without a doubt. Now I agree with wackdoodle. I just basically stopped eating it for a while, concentrating on only eating good foods. Now I basically never crave it. Even french fries, which was something I thought I would never give up.
13bluesskies I agree with you - I moved to Glasgow from California, and the fast food here grosses me out. I even see toddlers in prams eating crisps and sausage rolls, which is really depressing. I was raised on home cooked food and can't stomach the stodgy greasy fast food - even after a night in the pub. Although in Scotland I appear to be in the minority ...
14it's like the more u hv it, the more u crave it...so stay away from it and u wont crave it anymore...really it works!!
15After my last trip to England to visit my aunt and her boyfriend I can tell you that they love their fast food. My aunts boyfriend does not eat vegetables, she fed him tofu one night and he liked it until she told him what it was. He gagged.
16i always feel guilty after i eat fast food, i try to limit it to when its easier/kind of necessary: road trips/we're de-frosting the fridge. haha.
17Never mind the taste...the way it makes me feel after is so gross.
I think there are plenty of other foods to eat in this world that taste great, besides fast food. Yuck.
18I will admit that the convenience of fast food takes over for me sometimes and I do love my Chick Fil but I try to avoid it as much as possible. If it wasn't there for some reason, I wouldn't miss it.
19i only eat it once or twice a month. but it's just one of those little pleasures in life. burgers, shakes and fries i can live without. but every now and then i have to stop and sonic and have tater tots with ketchup! i make myself sit right there and eat it, and enjoy the moment. it reminds me of being a kid, when no one cared so much about that stuff and there was nothing to worry about. sometimes you need to let yourself have those moments!
20Honestly almost never eat fast food, so I defiantly disagree. The last time I ate fast food was about 3 years ago.
21I hear fast food in Europe, for sure in France, is AMAZING...and REAL food.
22i haven't eaten fast food in years. if i want something fast, i'd rather get some soup at whole foods or something.
23Watch Fast Food Nation or something. I used to "like sushi way too much to give it up." But stuff happens. You learn the truth about what it is you're eating. You don't complain and you just stop eating it.
24wambalus, it really is horrible seeing the children getting cookies and biscuits or fish and chips and all that greasy stuff... I'm a veggie too so I definitely don't trust things to have been handled without touching any meat and all that.
I honestly do not miss it at all! Once you grow up and learn how to cook for yourself, it just seems horrible. And now that I have started taking care of myself and exercising and eating right, it seems grosser than ever.
25gross.
26I love love love fast food. Really, I think it's fantastic. But I know how bad it is for me so I probably only have it once every 6 months or so, if that. It's really not that hard.
27um, i have to say agree! i'm sorry, but permanently giving up mickey's, no way. i used to be a total fiend back when i would literally eat mcdonald's once every two - three days, and nothing else. however, i got it under control, and now i eat it when i really really crave it, which is usually when i'm on my period or super-duper hungover. however, i only get my period once every 3 months, and i try to not get super-hungover really ever, so yeah. no way, though, would i give it up permanently!
28I don't really like the taste of fast food very much, but will buy it sometimes due to convenience. Often I will regret it, though! One exception is In N Out which is fantastic all the time
29I never eat fast food. To me it's like throwing my money and my health away. No thanks! The times when we're traveling, I bring my own snacks and will snack on something healthy til we can get somewhere to eat real food. Fast food = zero nutrients.
30Fast food is easy for me to say away from. All I have to do is think about the dripping fat grease and calories and I gross myself out. It also helps that I've had food poisoning one too many times from fast food places...I have learned my lesson.
31I don't like fast food at all!! Too processed, too greasy, too salty, too...questionable... Yuck!
32i don't ever have any burgers from fast food places. other places like arby's and subway.
33Not really a fast food fan, though In N Out burger is pretty good! I had my first one on a trip to AZ, but we don't have them in WA so I guess I don't really need to worry about it.
34wait fast food tastes good? haha i wont lie there are days im craving a thing of mcdonalds fries but really fast food is more a convience then 'yummy it tastes good'. when we moved we unfortunatly at alot of fast food purely for the fact that we were on the road non-stop and i haven't figured out a way to cook in a moving truck yet
but i can go a long time w/o eating fast food.
35or ate* grr its the way im sitting
36Nope, I don't agree. I pretty much gave up fast food. I eat fast food about once a year, and I'm fine with that.
37I have a big night out about twice a year, and I eat fast food about twice a year too. Doesn't take a genius to work out the connection!
Other than that, I'm not ever tempted. I'm a vegetarian too, so that makes it even easier. I love fresh food, and cooking, so the food I crave is my own homemade veggie dishes.
38i'll eat fast food on occasion, but the health factors of eating highly saturated foods with a lot of calories doesn't make sense to me. i can see why people eat it though. it's convenient.
39I very rarely eat fast food, and then it's usually a sandwich someplace. I don't think fast food is a taste choice for me it's a convicence/no other option thing for me.
40I really try not to eat fast food. I feel disgusting after I eat it. Once you create a healthy diet, when you eat anything other than pure food it just doesn't taste good anymore.
41i don't like it, but i am often so pressed for time and energy that i eat fast food. HOWEVER, if there were other options available (my own personal chef, for example), i doubt i would miss it much.
42The only time we eat fast food is on long road trips maybe 2x/yr. Even then I get a salad.
43there are better tasting foods out there
44I hardly ever eat it anyway, but every once in a while (maybe twice a year) I do get a craving for Chicken McNuggets.
45It's not the taste, it's the convenience. As in, "I like the convenience of fast food too much to give it up." But only until my kids are a little older and I can cook without having to constantly watch them at the same time.
46It's funny. A couple of years ago I may have agreed with that, but lately...I will think I am craving a fast food burger or something...I will go get it...and either A) the place will screw it up and it turns me off to the food, or B) It just doesn't taste good or right. (This does NOT count for 5 Guys...their burgers are always spot on and to dies for--but i don't even go there monthly)
I am not sure if this is because my brain is finally communicating to the rest of me that fast food is actually gross or if I am just becoming such a good cook at home that other food doesn't come close.
Speaking of which, I have some prep work to do for tomorrow
47I guess I'll be the only one to say that I do like the taste of fast food and I would not give it forever. But I don't have fast food on a regular basis, usually once every two weeks, when I'm at school and the stupid cafeteria closes early, it might be once or twice a week at the max. I do like the salt, but some of the food just really does taste good-- like the McDonald's Crispy Chicken Sandwich... it's very yummy. The breakfast food at most food places isn't that good though. But I don't see why ya'll are dissing fast food.
Everything is alright in moderation. If you have fast food every so often, then you shouldn't be panicking about how many calories or how much fat the food has because you should be eating well and exercising enough to offset a Big Mac every two weeks. Just chill out, a Big Mac alone won't(shouldn't) send you to the gym. Its your overall lifestyle that matters.
48i would call that an addiction
49Haven't eaten fast food save for a couple of McDonalds salads since the year 2000. It smells and looks nasty... same goes for the people who eat it on a regular basis.
