If you are trying to lose weight, eating meals out can be your nemesis
. While it can be convenient to eat out all the time, the extra calories add up. The reason food at restaurants tastes better is that fat, and plenty of it, is often the secret ingredient. Plus, I find food cooked by someone else just seems tastier (hint to my hubbie if he is reading this) and a little bit luxurious, even if it is a taco. In relationship to the health goals of losing weight and eating healthier, it is a good idea to asses how often you are eating restaurant fare, be it food from high class joints or fast food chains. So . . .

I eat out maybe twice a month at most. A bowl of cereal everyday for breakfast, for lunch I either have leftovers from the previous night's dinner or if there are no leftovers, then I bring a yogurt, some fruit, and a granola bar, and I cook every night we're home. We eat out on rare occasion, like celebrating something with friends or we have an out of town visitor, but generally even when we want to see our friends on weekends, I have them over and I cook for them. My fiance and I save a ton of money by cooking in and we eat so much healthier, and my friends (who are mostly bachelors) all love coming over for a home cooked meal -- I've had many offers for marriage and attempts to steal me away from my fiance based on knowing my way around the kitchen! The downside, of course, is how much time it takes to cook, since I never use premade/prepackaged anything. The downside, of course, is that after a 12 hour day in the lab, the last thing I want to do is come home and cook dinner, but we can't afford (monetarily but mostly calorie-wise) to eat out.
1Please ignore the fact that I repeat myself and sound like a moron at the end of that. I had to drive my fiance to the airport at 4am and I'm still a little out of it. I think it would have been wiser to just go to work at 5am and get out by 5 but instead I came home... and now I can't seem to get back up off the couch.
2I eat out with my boyfriend, like never, but I eat out with my parents whenever I'm home, which is about twice every other week. The trick is to only eat half of whatever you get. Then it's half the calories and you have leftovers
Unless it's Japanese, I
have no self control there and leftovers get icky, but 'least the stuff is healthier.
3I eat out with my husband once every 3 months or so. I like to cook generally and the thought of someone elses hands on my food is gross. I know I'm neurotic, but at least physically healthier for it.
4I go out for lunch two to three times a week.
5i actually dont eat out at all! i sometimes order my meals delivered to my house,
6sorry if i write wrong grammar,
I rarely eat out, no thanks. Maybe once a month if anything...
7I work in a restaurant, so I eat food there a couple times a week.
8We get sushi from our grocery store to bring home and eat about twice a month, sometimes more, and we get our sons chicken fingers (they don't like sushi yet). On top of that, we might go to a local taqueria a couple times a month for take-out. (It's "eating out," but all of the food is freshly made there, down to the tortillas.) We almost never go to a restaurant and have a sit-down meal - once a month at the very very most, on average. It's too hard with two rambunctious boys under 4, and having to entertain them negates the beneftis of eating out. Over the holidays we did eat out more often, because my mom visited, and she won't eat our food. (She really won't eat much home cooking at all, but that's a different story.)
I know I read the average person gets fast food something like 17 times a month, and the area where I live (Deep South Texas) was even higher, like 24 times a month. :0 No wonder there is such a weight problem!
9Wow I feel bad! I eat out way more then most of you! Probably for lunch maybe 1-2 times a week (2 being the most) and dinner 3 days a week at most. And SOMETIMES when we feel like getting up early we eat Sunday brunch otherwise I just make a bomb breakfast
10This was part of my new years resolution. not only do the calories add up, but so does the money! you can spend half as much on what you spend at a restaurant and get twice as much food when you buy it from a grocery store and prepare it yourself! Also, you will be able to make what you want exactly the way you want!
11i eat out ALOT!
12its almost BAD!.. but its soo good!! haha
my boyfriend and i go for lunch.. probably 2-4 times a week
and then we will go for dinner.. maybe 2-4 times as well.. it really depends on what we are doing... if were not TOOO busy then we will cook.. but if were feeling lazy and in a rush we just go out.. its bad... we could save so much money if we just made our own dinner and lunch.. oh and on weekends.. we found this totally cute little breakfest place that we also like to go to!!.. but really it all depends on the week.. cuz some weeks we wont go out at all or maybe once.. n other weeks.. its CRAZY!! haha
It depends for me. Before payday I always take my lunch and snacks and breakfast and eat at home for dinner. Usually I'll go out once in a while for lunch and when my hubby doesn't feel like cooking for dinner. So, about 6 times a month.
13I may eat lunch out once a week, but my husband and I rarely eat dinner out. We'll have "beer and pizza Friday's" at my work but I've been skipping out on those lately.
14I eat out ALOT...My mom cooks dinner, and that's our lunch for the next day, but I don't like Indian food! So I usually eat out.
15We go through spells where we eat out more than in and then we get back on track and cook dinner at home. I usually bring my lunch and almost ALWAYS make breakfast at home.
16I eat out lunch 2-3 times a week at work, which pretty cheap and healthy - I work on a college campus. I've been trying hard to cut down dinners, though. We normally go about once a least at week either to dinner or brunch. I love restaurants... too much!
17Living in NYC, I find myself eating out or ordering in A LOT. On average, two meals a day. I think it would definitely help my waistline AND my budget if I were to do a little more cooking but it's hard to get motivated.
18I eat lunch out every week day and 2 or 3 times during the weekend. I know it is too much but even eating out I managed to lose 22lbs on the last 3 months (still 43 to go!)
19every day i get food ordered in at work (company pays for it
). one could easily
gain a lot of weight this way, but 9 times out of 10 i order a salad (the tenth time i get sushi!)
20we used to eat out or get take away all the time, untill we really started to look at our budget and HOLY COW the amount of money we spent on food. So we dont eat out unless its a special occasion.
21My new years resolution is also to stop eating out so much mainly for the money factor.
The amount of money people spend on take-out is outrageous, and I would love to save it for things I need or emergencies.
I am now down to once a week and that is date-night for the bf and I. Every other week we try to do something different like movie, bowling, rock climbing, or a museum or something.
22I eat out with my folks almost every day for dinner.
23Maybe once?
24Not at all this week so far!
Once last week from sumo salad.
=)
I RARELY eat out - I find fresh food from home cheaper and tastier...
25I always go out for dinner once a week and usually go out for lunch once too. Some weeks will just be the one dinner; very rarely do I eat out more than twice in a week (usually only around holidays or when I have company).
26I don't cook. We spend $400-$900 a month on eating out. We go through spurts of not eating out, but then something inevitably happens to snap us out of it (last time it was having to stay in a hotel when our electricity was out - I can't not eat out while in a hotel, even with the fridge and microwave.). We just started a new "only eating out once a week" plan. Again.
27I've been so good about not going out much lately, but I really, really miss it!
28I try to limit it to dinner out once a week, but my boyfriend wants to go like 3x/wk. He's such a bad influence with food.
29I order my lunch (on the company's dime of course) about half of the week. I split these in half and supply the rest of the week hehe!
When I do eat out, I never feel guilty money- or waist-line-wise b/c I always choose healthy options, split these in half, and don't feel money spent out is money waisted.
Eat at restaurants supports our economy. Also...my boyfriend is an awesome cook so I'm never lacking anything. I do all the cleaning.
30I love going out to dinner and having drinks with my husband and/or friends, one of my favorite things to do. I eat out every weekend, usually on Friday nights. It's something I look forward to.
If I was overweight or trying to lose weight, I suppose I'd have to cut back on it. But I'm not so I am going to enjoy it!
31i eat out a good bit, but im a salad and please just grill the chicken with nothing else kind of girl.
32I manage a restaurant, so I pull a lot of 12 hour shifts that makes it hard for me not to eat there! But, I find healthy ways to eat restaurant food... like asking them to cook my food without butter or oil, or just getting grilled fish or chicken with veggies.
33almost never. only on vacation. i really like the taste of my cooking better than eating out. and when i prepare a meal myself i know for sure it's healthy and not loaded with s**t or handled with dirty hands.
34I said once a week, but it's more like once every 2 or 3 weeks. Between the health and price issues, I just don't eat out much. I really enjoy cooking anyway.
35I eat out a lot. I usually buy food at a cafeteria, nearby restaurants, or a taco truck where I work. In the evenings I often have other activities, so I don't have time to cook. Recently I've been experimenting with cooking something beforehand, or not eating a full meal until after I return home from my activities.
