Usually when I am using a cardio machine, I like to change around the resistance, speed, incline, etc., so I don't typically cover the display on the cardio machine. However, just about everyone else at the gym does. Do you?

I absolutely cannot look at the time. I spend 60 minutes on the arc trainer and if I look at the time it will drive me crazy.
Its 50/50. I cover it but then it falls off and I run over it on teh treadmill.
i don't cover it but i don't look at it, i use songs as interval, like with every song changes i increase resistance and then when i look and see it has been 30 minutes i start to decrease the resistance, it is like every 3 minutes
no, I alternate 2 mins fast and 2 mins slower so I need to look at the time.
no and I always wondered why ppl did that. I sometimes use 2 - 3 different machines so I have to make sure my time myself.
Can't watch! It helps me get through it, if I don't know how long I have to go.
I like to know...
I keep in covered but check it every so often. Having the clock stare at me makes it feel so much longer. I usually use the elliptical, so I can push harder and up the resistance every couple songs without looking at my time.
It would drive me crazy if I didn't look!! I don't know how people can stand to not see the time. Plus I am usually doing some form of intervals, hills, etc., so I need to see the time. The time flies by when you are breaking up your workout into three minute interval sets.
Sometimes the time just DRAGS...but if there is a lot going on at the gym (meaning HOT guys walking around) the time goes so FAST! =P
I absolutely must be able to see the time. It makes me really uneasy if I don't know how much time I have left.
No.
I like to watch plus I need to keep track of them time because I powerwalk/run in 2 minute inervels.
I like to know the calorie count and how far I've gone...not so much the time although I like to see how much I've done!
I use a heart rate monitor, so I look at the watch. I like to know how long I have left so I can speed up or slow down.
I can't look at the time, so I have to cover it. Before I would cover it I would constantly be looking at the time and saying "is it done yet?" My workouts became more about time than sweating.
I don't cover the display, I like to keep track of the time. And if time starts to drag on, I'll just pay more attention to the TVs they have on.
I'm a sometimes-coverer. But I still count in my head. Very slowly. So that when I think I have 45 minutes left, I really have 15. Strange but it works for me.
I cover up on the elliptical because I own one that has an awesome weight loss mode that changes resistance for you.
On the other hand, I do not change the treadmill because every four minutes I change resistance and speed.
I don't cover it because I don't want to look at it, but sometimes I'll bring a magazine and that covers it.
I just look at the speed
i HAVE to cover it - i can't watch the screen if i'm working out cuase it makes me crazy to think that i've worked out less than i imagined that i did.
I have to cover it too! If I need to look I look but I can't stand knowing much more time. I think it has been 15 minutes and it has only been 5.
By the way...that boy is Zexy! =P
Magazine. I have to have something to do.
I usually read so that covers it but I try and leave the "time remaining" part clear so I know what's what. But I do find that I do a harder workout if I'm watching the stats instead of reading.
It drives me crazy to look! I get so bored that if I were watching the clock I'd never finish.
I have to look at it to increase my resistance and decrease it. Ditto for the speed.
Hell no I wanna see my stats!
if i'm on the elliptical then it's covered because i just put it on a setting. if it's the treadmill that's a different story - i'm constantly changing the speeds (i do intervals in the mornings). is it bad to keep it covered on some machines??
I keep mine visible because I like to change the resistance on the elliptical all the time. When I am running on a treadmill, I try not to look at the time though...it gets depressing.
I can not look at it! Knowing how much time left kills me! I think it is so much easier to go for a run outside for an hour then run on a treadmill for an hour. I feel like I am running forever and it has only been two minutes! Working out inside is so dull.
No I don't b/c I'm constantly changing my incline and speed and I like to see how far I'm going and how many calories I'm burning (even if it isn't really accurate).
It depends for me. When I'm doing intervals, of course I look at the display. But sometimes when I'm doing something more like an endurance run or bike ride, I cover up the time display with my towel. I find that sometimes I can push myself harder for longer if I'm not mindful of the time. On the other hand, sometimes I need the display to make sure I'm working as hard as I know I can, especially on days when I have to drag myself to the gym and feel like wimping out!
I'm a magazine reader, so that usually covers the display. But my attention span is so short... I like to get engrossed in something and then look down and be (pleasantly) surprised by how much time has gone by.
No. But i dont keep track of my time, I keep track of my calories burned, when i reach my number I have set for the day then I'll get off.
I cover it! Otherwise, the time seems to drrrrrrrrrrraaaaaaaaaaaaag. If I need to do intervals, I either set one of the programs, or I use my little kitchen timer thingie that I keep in one of the cup holders. - LM
