I know I've always been told to wash my hands a lot when handling poultry. I would guess that's got something to do with the reasons you wouldn't want to wash out a turkey.
Thats good to know. I always wash my hands a few times after handling chicken and turkey and wash the countertops with lysol.
Got it
I had never even heard of washing your turkey before.. it just seems like it would be complete overkill to wash it before sticking it in the oven for a few hours.
Washing the turkey is usually done not to get rid of harmful bacteria ( which doesn't work)but to clean out the cavity to get rid of the blood and such. At least thats why everyone I know does it. :}
Nice to know.
