I love when my gym gets a new cardio machine because that means more ways to change up my workout and combat the looming boredom. The latest addition to my gym to keep an eye out for is the Precor AMT.
The AMT does more than add variety to your workouts, it customizes movement by adapting to your motion, which means you can completely change the motion and paths of your steps without so much as the push of the button. This means that you can step in the motions of a StairMaster for two minutes and then use it as a glider for the next two minutes. It takes a little while to get used to, but I love that you can make a workout different every time rather than just doing the same thing over and over again like most cardio machines. What's more? It has a Stride Dial, which basically shows you which muscles you are using with each movement. Right now it looks like it's mainly for commercial use, but I do think it would make a great home piece (despite the fact that it's a little bulky — and pricey, I'm sure).
Look for it at your gym or pass along the information to the manager at your gym to have her look into getting one for the cardio floor.

I so want that in my stocking
1This looks great, but I doubt that my gym will ever get one. Sigh.
2My gym just got one of these for us to try, and I did today.
LOVE. IT.
It did take a little getting used to, but after about 2 minutes I got the hang of it. I had the most amazing half hour workout, changing my stride and the resistance, it was so easy to get my heart rate up, and now I'm starting to feel the different muscles that got worked. The different strides also worked my core more than, say, an elliptical, because of the different motions requiring stability.
Beg your gym for one - I am!
3that looks really cool, but my gym bought a bunch of new cardio machines a couple months ago, so i don't think it'll be a whil before i get to test the amt out.
4MY gym got them a few months ago and I LOVE them! My favorite machine! It is way better than an eliptical!
5i would love one but i looked it up... it's $8,000..
6My gym has them and I first tried it a few weeks ago but it was too much like a stair stepper and hurt my knees. My water aerobics teacher was telling me to try adjusting my stance and I did that last night and it was great! I got a killer workout, was drenched after doing 10 minutes. I had already done 30 minutes on the eliptical.I will be back tonight! I am trying to get back in shape after back surgery in Dec. of last year.
