Nutritional Information Printed on Receipt: Cool or Not?

Nutricate, a new company, has developed technology that prints the nutritional information of your purchased meal right on the receipt. The way I see it, it could go two ways: the new receipts may make some of us feel horrible that we just purchased a meal that has 1,000 calories while others can feel overjoyed with how many calories they are saving by simply saying, "Hold the mayo." I could see this becoming a problem when folks get their receipt and want to change their order completely after they've realized they've just purchased a heart attack on a plate.

What do you guys think — is nutritional information printed on the receipts of food you ordered cool or not?

I think that this is interesting...BUT wouldn't you want to know the caloric value before the end of your meal? It would be better if it was on the menu.

I think that this is interesting, but it would be better if it was on the menu and you could see the calories before you eat them.

I think it's great for people to be made awar of how many calories, etc. they are consuming, but recieivng this information after the purchase could lead to a lot of guilt (and refunds).

It's a cool idea, but I'd like to see the nutritionals before ordering...and wouldn't mind them on the receipt as well!

I think that that is great -- especially since it subtracts for removal of condiments, etc. I would definitely choose restaurants that had this feature over those that didn't.

I prefer to know the nutritional information of food before I buy it. It is one of the criteria I have for my purchase. I don't know how I'll feel about getting it after the money has been forked over.

I'd rather have the nutritional information before I order and pay for it!

that seems so ridiculous! if they are committed to educating consumers, put the nutritional info on the MENU.

also, i've heard that any calorie counts for restaurant food is often pretty inaccurate since the chef/cook is probably making the food a little differently each time.

Anything that gets more nutritional information out to our blind, deaf, and dumb public is okay by me.

I think its a brilliant new idea, but not sure if it will catch on. I can't see restaurants wanting to put nutritional info on their receipts, that's asking for it.

But about ordering a high-calorie dish - at least you know, right? I usually order whatever I want on the menu anyway, and then I'll split it in half to save the calories and have another meal already prepared.

I think it's great to have the information but I agree that it should be on the menu as well so you can make an informed decision when ordering.

I think it is a great idea, but it is something that would be best known before ordering. Also, that is wasting a lot of paper.

Interesting idea...I'd like to see calorie numbers on an order board or listed in a menu. Never been to a Silvergreens.

I think it's a great idea! I count calories and am always checking out the nutritional info of places and I hate when restaurants don't share that info.

Seems like a great idea to me - but I think it would be really simple before they print the receipt to ask if you want the nutritionals added to your receipt. While I would want to see it, I dont think its right to force people to look at it (from a social or business perspective). The new millennium is about choice.

I thinks its really cool and could be totally helpful - but there are those times where i just want a sundae and I don't want to have to worry about calories!

I love this so much. If you watch your nutritional intake, this is a wonderful idea because even if you were to get fast food for some reason, you could then plan the rest of your day based on the damage you just did to try to even it out.

i guess it's cool if it's just an fyi sort of thing & dieters/health conscious people might appreciate it. the info on the receipt might move people to make better choices in the future, but it'd be better to give people the information before they place an order.

Not cool, this calorie obsession is way out of control, believing in calories either makes you under or overweight.

America is both calorie and diet obsessed, yet they are the most obese nation in the world, I'd say there is an obvious problem there Eye-wink

I think it would be great, honestly. It'd be really helpful when you're dieting or just watching your intake and unsure about portion size or whatever.

No, if you care enough to count calories, you'd want to know before. Knowing afterwards would just increase the guilt factor. Frankly, if you order french fries and a burger, you know they're not the healthiest, lowest calorie items ever. I don't want to have nutritionals shoved in my face after eating.
