I have been trying to eat lower on the food chain and have been cooking more meat free meals. There is a wide variety of meat alternatives out there to chose from, like tofu to veggie burgers, from seitan, to tofu pups. They're all great sources of protein and they're usually low in fat, calories and cholesterol free.

So I was wondering about you . . .

I eat Black Bean burgers instead of regular burgers and I love tofu! Maybe a couple times of week...
1the boca meatless chili is amazing.very low calorie for the whole package
2I just recently started trying meatless options and it's been shocking how good some of them are!!! I still eat meat, but I enjoy some of the meatless options so much that I eat them a lot now!
A few of my favorites:
Morningstar Farms Parmesan Ranch Chix Patties (SO delicious. I like to eat it on a whole wheat bun topped with some mozzarella, tomatoes, spinach, and onions)
Morningstar Farms Tomato-Basil Pizza Burger (this is my new obsession!!! I eat it on a whole wheat bun topped with mozzarella, tomatoes, spinach, and onions - then i dip it into a small mixture of balsamic vinegar and olive oil.)
Garden Burger is good too, for the regular burger route.
And I ate at a new Vegan restaurant the other day and it was one of the most delicious meals I've had in a while!
3Every so often...
4I've been trying to eat more meat alternatives for the health benefits, but I will admit at first I only used Smart Ground to replace ground beef because all those recalls have made me too scared to buy it anymore (even though when it did, the meat always was going into a sauce so I cooked the daylights out of it). But recently I've been branching into other alternatives for other recipes. My favorite part is how much more quickly they cook, cutting prep time in half!
5I put a couple of times a month, but i didn't know tofu and tempeh counted. I don't consider those meat substitutes, really. They don't try to be meat; they're just sources of protein. I consider meat substitutes like veggie burgers or Quorn. Tofu and tempeh are whole foods that don't try to be anything other than what they are and I indulge in those two alone at least once a week.
6I don't buy many meat alternative products because I am allergic to some ingredients in them and don't like how processed they are. We will get tofu and seitan though. We do meatless more than half the time without pre-packaged products by using legume/grain combos or nuts.
7Oh, I'm a fan. I'm sort of bummed that they are sort of high in sodium, but I love them & my bf is a big meat eater, but he likes them too.
Some of our favorites:
Tacos w/ Morningstar Farms faux ground beef
Enchillidas w/ Morningstar Farms faux grilled chicken.
Taco salads w/ Morningstar Farms faux ground beef.
Almost any salad topped w/ the faux grilled chicken.
Grilled Tofu w/ brown rice, pineapple & soy sauce.
Love the veggie bites & "chicken" nuggets from Morningstar farms too.
I love the veggie hot dogs, all of the veggie burgers & they used to have a veggie pizza with faux sausage & pepperoni that was great, but they quit making it!
I would say I have it more than a couple times a week some weeks.
8like someone above said, i don't really look at tofu, tempeh, or seitan as meat alternatives. they are just protein sources. maybe i see it this way because i don't eat meat. they are just food to me!
9Only once every few months. Actually, I'm completely vegetarian. There are only a few stores in Tokyo that carry meat alternatives and none of them are nearby. So there's nothing to do except look for/create recipes which never called for anything meaty in the first place, instead of using a substitute. My local supermarkets do carry tofu (cheap and fresh!), cheese, and quinoa, so I'm not starving for protein in any case.
10never
11although i have some dear friends who are veggitarians and are trying to convert me to tofu... it's coming slowly but surely. i have successfully eaten a Pei Wei entree with tofu instead of my usual chicken... but that was a mental battle for me.
12I'm not vegetarian, but eat little meat - fish 1-2x week, and other meat maybe once a week, if that.
I don't eat meat "alternatives" often, though. I'll eat tofu if it's served, I've never tried tempeh, I like veggie burgers but try to avoid heavily processed foods.
I did recently try seitan, though, and LOVED it!!! My husband even liked it. If it was available at our regular grocery, and not just at the out-of-the-way health food store, I would probably eat it a few times a week.
13at least a few times a month, but sometimes more, just depends on the mood.
right now in my freezer i have morningstar buffalo wings, corn "dogs", and breakfast patties. also have veggie burgers and spicy boca chix patties.
i do all sorts of things with them, some creations of meat dishes, some times using the buffalo wings in a salad, or doing chix ceasar wraps, etc.
and i eat meat, just like the health benefits of the non-meat stuff.
14I am not good at cooking tofu. I wish I could learn... its cheap!
15Like someone above said, you really need to watch how high some of these are in sodium, not to mention overall preservatives and carbs. Don't get me wrong, they are tasty but they are still package food. So while I love me a good veggie burger, I feel safer sticking to the produce aisle.
16Im not a big alt. meat eater. I had to eat all sorts of vegetarian meals when I was younger and still never acquired a taste for it. Instead of substituting for meat I'd rather have a dish thats naturally vegetarian-pasta, a cassarole, soup, etc.
17I used to eat Quorn "chicken" on my lunch salads all the time until one batch gave me serious food poisoning. I can't even look at it now without getting queasy.
18I can't - I'm allergic to soy protein and legumes.
19fake bacon is sooooo yummy- i love making (f) BLT's with it.
and good ol veggie burgers.
Also, you know you can buy texturized vegetable protein in bulk, it's cheaper than buying frozen packages of burgers. It helps the environment and your wallet.
You can make burgers with just TVP or if you eat meat make burgers with half meat (Like turkey?) and half TVP and you get a GREAT tasting burger with half the fat, calories, etc.
20i am a lacto ovo vegetarian and i generally eat the ones that are organic and made mainly from vegetables although i will eat boca and morningstar products..
21Pretty often...I'm a huge fan of veggie burgers. Morningstar Farms is probably my favorite. I love their veggie bites too. SO good.
22I will be having tofu tonight. My girl friend and her husband are coming over and she is a vegetarian. I think the baked tofu sound good.
23I am addicted to the Morningstar Breakfast Sausage Patties. I have a box at work and just pop one in the micro for 45 secs for a low cal/high protein snack or to go along with my morning oatmeal.
24I don't think I have ever tried a meat alternative
25ewwww...this is all just gross to me. sorry!
26Although I don't buy them, I'll eat it if it's offered. My dad's GF is a vegan, so often times I'll get it at his house. She has a favorite restaurant here where all the meat is a soy based sub, so if we all go there I'll eat that too. I don't mind it, but I'd rather eat tofu teriyaki or something if I'm out. I really don't eat a whole lot of meat lately anyhow. Like others said - I don't exactly quantify my tofu consumption in the category of a meat substitute. My tofu isn't trying to be beef...it's very firm in it's own identity thankyouverymuch.
27Im a vegetarian... so alot!
28Vegetarian here... so at least once a day
29I'm a vegan, but I've found ways to make all these alternatives yummy for everyone
I
don't judge if people eat meat, but it's nice to make a dish that I can share with everyone.
30Never, I don't eat processed food.
31i got in trouble a couple of years ago from eating too many soy-based meat alternatives. the phytoestrogens threw my hormone balance out of wack, and it landed me in the hospital. yikes!
i do love the stuff, though.
32When I make tacos or chili, I use the Boca crumbles instead of fatty ground beef in it. I swear that no one can tell the difference between that and real meat!
33I had to add that we very rarely eat beef (like 3-4 times a year) and went without it for 2+ years completely. We wanted burgers once, though, and there was no place close to get organic beef. So, we got veggie burgers, cooked them, and then piled on cheese and bacon!
There seemed something really wrong about a bacon veggie burger, but it was SO good.
(Processed pork products are one of my weaknesses. I heart bacon!)
34I eat tofu all the time, but I don't really consider it to be a meat alternative. I usually eat it WITH meat.
I very rarely eat things that are meant to look and taste like meat...that's just weird to me. I don't have a problem eating tofu as tofu and just veggies.
35I agree with another poster, they are still processed, packaged food. I have really made an effort to not eat any processed foods, so this stuff is out. I'll make my own black bean burgers, thanks.
36Basically only when I visit my dad and stepmom (because they're vegetarian), even though they make meat dishes for littlest sister I feel bad having them make it for me too. Besides I don't mind although I do prefer when it's vegetarian meals without the meat substitutes.
37I eat meat but I love this stuff!! Morning star farms is the best!!! Bacon, ground beef, parmesan chick patties, sausage patties... Mmmmmm, sooooo good.
38Whenever I can (i.e., when I'm not sharing a meal with my husband).
39Ewww never!! I love my REAL MEAT!
40never eat anything meat related
41I never eat this stuff - I find it absolutely repulsive!!! YUCK~ eat some meat ~ At least you know where it comes from!!
42i'm vegan but never ate much meat growing up so only eat tofu every other week or so. i don't like things that taste and look like meat, so really can't stand those "burger" things and fake hot dogs...?! eww!
43MorningStar Tomato/Basil burgers are SO good!
44I don't understand why it's MORE gross to eat a patty made from the protein in beans, soybeans, vegetables, grains, etc. than it is to consume a patty or link made from the muscle and connective tissue of killed cows and/or pigs...?
45Well Im a vegetarian so naturally I eat meat substitutes often.
