If working out with a barbell has always intrigued you, but you feel a little intimidated wielding a big stick with weights attached all by yourself, then you should definitely check out BodyPump. These hour long classes are structured entirely around working all your major muscles, and then some, with a barbell and some hand weights thrown in for good measure.
Using differing weight amounts (the weights can be easily changed and lock onto the bar bell), you alternate between working the lower body, upper body and abs. Your entire body will get worked as you practice different lift techniques like dead lift, clean lift, and overhead press. All this can make you feel very tough, in a good way. Generally, one body part is worked for a full pop song and this can mean working your triceps for three and a half minutes. For me that was a seriously increased load on my triceps, since I generally do two sets of 12 a couple times a week. In light of the that please take heed of this suggestion:The first couple times you take the class, I highly suggest you go easy on the amounts of weight you choose. You should feel no need to keep up with the instructor, especially if you want to move your arms the next day (or two, or three).
If you want to see if there is a class near you check out this class locator. Hopefully you're pumped up about pumping!

I do this about once a week. But it's not enough, I'm so sore the next couple of days!
1I've been doing BodyPump (and BodyVive and soon BodyCombat!) for a while now. I LOVE IT. I've found no other group class that works EVERYTHING. The songs are motivating, the instructors (at least mine) are fabulous and the best part is that every 3 months Les Mills comes out wtih a whole new release for each program so you don't get bored with the same songs and moves. I think I even Hearted Les Mill on Sugar Loving last week!
I'm completely addicted...in a good
way!
2I love body pump. I have been taking it for years, along with Body Step, and it just makes it so much easier to force myself to lift weights. Just the other day I decided I am going to mix it up and lift on my own sometimes too, just to hit the other muscles it doesn't hit. But if someone wants to get into weightlifting or have a fun way to keep it up, this is perfect!!
3LOVE IT! Been doing this class for like 6 years!
4I do Bodypump and Bodycombat - it's amazing! Because of its fun value, I find it difficult to drag myself to the gym since I've picked up BP!
5Nothing in my state
6If there are 24 Fitness gyms in your area, BodyPump sounds just like their 24Lift classes, which I LOVE.
7I love body pump, you only have to do it 2 times a week to feel awesome about the results. I am doing the sister program now "Group Power" and its basically the same exact routine with different music, its the best strength training I've ever gotten since it has upbeat music and instructors that push you to the limit with the weights. I recommend it to everyone looking to improve their current fitness regime.
8I absolutely adore Body Pump, and all of the other Les Mills classes. And it makes me feel quite patriotic too, given that it was developed in little old New Zealand and now it's almost EVERYWHERE
But, like aimeeb said, there are some places that don't
have it - so look out for BTS's Group Power and 24 Fitness's Lift classes; they're very similar, but they buy licenses for different songs.
9I LOVE body pump. The gym I belonged to for the summer had classes but my college gym I go to now does not have it
I miss it, it is the best full body workout. The barbells make you feel so strong and powerfull too haha. My instructor was argentinian and such a motivator. I can't
wait for the summer so I can get back into it.
10I love those les mills classes! Even if they do keep having to remind us that it started in New Zealand!
11This class is good cause you really get a workout for your entire body. I really recommend it if you have problems getting motivated to do strength training on your own.
12I try to do both, BodyPump some days and own routine other days. When doing my own routine I do less repetitions and more weight which is more effective to build muscle.
I just did Group Power for the first time last week and it was great! I was sore for two days! Is it weird that I enjoyed being sore after it?
13BODYPUMP is incredible! I have an amazing instructor (every Tuesday and Sunday) and the whole class just has a really positive vibe to it. Representing New Zealand, Les Mills Hutt City!!!
