Resistance training, weight lifting, strength training — they are all variations of the same theme. If you are resistant to adding strength training into your program let me share the five great reasons to start pumping iron according to realbuzz.com.

Here are the highlights:
- Maintains strength: Everything we do requires all-round body strength — from simple movements such as eating a meal to more difficult tasks such as lifting and pushing. You can maintain your ability to carry out everyday tasks without difficulty.
- Reduces injury risk: Weight training not only strengthens muscles but also connective tissues, like tendons. Tendon injuries in sport and ordinary activities are very common — but doing a regular resistance workout will reduce the likelihood of these injuries occurring.
- Prevents osteoporosis: Osteoporosis — or brittle-bone disease — affects both men and women, and you can strengthen the whole skeleton through resistance training, because lifting weights actually stimulates the skeleton to get thicker and stronger.
- Helps weight management: The more muscle your body has, the more calories you burn — whether you are exercising or not! An extra pound of muscle equates to burning an extra 50 calories a day — so hitting the gym for a weights workout will help keep you slim!
- Is essential for power and speed in sport: Muscle power is a key factor at every level of sporting performance. If you do not have good muscular strength, then your ability to run, jump, throw, or kick will be reduced. Resistance training enables athletes to specifically target the appropriate muscle groups that are relevant for their sport.

I love me weight lifting! Makes me feel like Super Women!
1I love lifting weights. I have 10 lb. ones. I do the arm workout posted on here actually. My arms look and feel nice and toned.
2I adore weight training, and I really like that despite being one of the smaller people at my office, I'm the only woman who can change the water in the water cooler.
3It's funny how when I was a teenager all I wanted to be was super skinny. As I got older that changed to wanting to be strong. To "secrethoughts"... me too! Some of the other "bigger" ladies I work with used to go look for one of the guys to change the 5 gallon water jug.. now they look for me! I love it!
4i really enjoy strength training. i'm shotting for being up to 15 pound dumbbells by the new year.
5I love weight training too! It makes me feel strong and cardio doesn't generally do that.
6=)
I love lifting weights more than cardio
7Me, too Bahar...I would much rather lift weights that do cardio. So, I do a workout DVD that is a lot of strength moves with some cardio thrown in!
8All very important!
9Great blog ... agree its so important but so many women dont do it... scared of bulking up. Its actually increase my weight loss a great since I started... the more muscle the more fat ya burn!
10where can i find some good weight exercises?
11Yeah. Um, I am a cardio person. I do Yoga & Pilates. My new years resolution is to strenght train more.
12Reason # 6 to lift weights: to lose inches. I have always done mostly cardio with a small amount of weight lifting. I have added more weight lifting to my fitness routine and have seen such a difference. I have dropped two pants sizes in eight months by adding weight lifting. And I love feeling stronger.
13Wow, I didn't know that about Osteoporosis. I love weight lifting so it's all good!
14Oh and mbcostigan, that's how I dropped three sizes too!
15I love weight training for my arms & back. It feels great to be strong. But I wish it made me lose inches! My husband calls me his little linebacker. Not exactly the look I'm going for.
16Awesome! Reason #4 is enough motivation for me.
