Where I live strep throat is already going around. It seems early to me, but bacterial infections unfortunately don't operate on my schedule. Strep flourishes in cold weather, and stress, exhaustion, as well as fighting off viral infections can weaken your body's defenses setting you up for an attack of strep throat. When it comes to strep, you want to catch it early before it depletes your health and you don't want to spread the contagious bacteria around.
Here are the symptoms to watch out for:
- Sore throat that comes on rapidly
- Headaches Fever, sometimes greater than 102° F
- A raw, red appearance to the back of the throat
- White pus on tonsils
- Tender, high lymph nodes in neck
- Rash on the body that feels like sandpaper
- Absence of a cough, stuffy nose, or other upper-respiratory symptoms
The incubation period for strep is 2 to 5 days and the infection is usually treated with a 10 day course of antibiotics.

I hate strep throat! I had it all the time when I was a kid (to the point they were considering taking out my tonsils), and had it last year while we were moving into our new house!

4oh man! strep throat is horrible! I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy. I used to get it every thanksgiving when I was little. I mean EVERY THANKSGIVING! it only stopped when I was about 14. It was horrible, cause It was like a sneak attack! I didn't even get better in time for leftover turkey sandwiches! It was the kind where it hurt to even breathe through your mouth too. And it hurt so you wanted to cry, but crying hurt too. Now, I wear a breathing mask for the 5 days before thanksgiving.
5Wow, I haven't had strep in eons. Probably the last time I had it was in 6th grade. I had strep and bronchitis at the same time and I was MISERABLE. I had to be out of school for a week and it sucked so much. Don't forget, if you're on antibiotics for strep, TAKE THEM ALL even if you feel better. You want to make sure you eradicate all the bacteria in your system so you don't leave stragglers behind. They could multiply and reinfect you. Then you'll need MORE antibiotics...etc., etc., etc.
6I have strep throat right now and my mom wont take me to the hospital to treat it...
