The mall is almost unavoidable during the holidays, and something about all that running around and waiting in lines makes me hungry. What's worse: Not only am I hungry, but I also know there is a place where food is easily accessible. That place, like the fast food holy land, is the Food Court.
Don't worry, we can get through this.
I already shared a few survival strategies, and another idea is to bring your own snacks. Healthy snacking options are limited at the food court: Think french fries, bagels, candy, and cookies. Last year user redsugar suggested carrying a zip top bag full of nuts so you can satisfy your hunger without heading to Cinnabon.
If you forget your baggie of healthy munchies, then pretzel shops are not always a bad option. The Jalapeño Pretzel without butter from Auntie Anne's has 270 calories and no trans fat (this was the best I could find at Auntie Anne's in terms of nutrition) — not horrible. If you're cutting out white flour, then try the Whole Wheat Pretzel (no butter) with 350 calories and 1.5 grams of fat.

That's part of shopping to me! The food court!
1Buuuut I just try and get somethign little like a pita or taco, not a whole meal. When i eat a whole meal I feel so sluggish and bloated after and who wants to try on clothes when you feel like that!?
i love the food court! but i also get something small.. and i try to wait until im pretty much done my shopping, atleast shopping for ME!... so then i dont have to try anything on after.. its like if i find what im looking for i'll have a little snack and countinue shopping for someone else!.. or soemthing else that i dont have to try on!
2I used to eat the sugar and cinnomin pretzel at Auntie Anne's. I know it's gross, right?
3I used to work in a mall so I learned the best thing you can do is go to the Greek place and order chicken breast with a side salad.
4I seriously felt like I was going to pass out with how overwhelming the food court can get with the smells and the noise and the lights!!!
I went a smootie tonight. to at least get fruit into me!
5I steer clear away...
6I stick with real food. Went to Sbarro yesterday and got a plain piece of baked chicken (no skin eaten) and a bit of steamed veggies. Didn't gain weight! Woohoo.
7Another good snack choice is the $1 fruit and yogurt mini parfaits from McDonald's. They're pretty yummy and fairly low in calories. I usually don't snack when I'm at the mall, but if I'm ravished, I'll grab a side salad somewhere or go to a nearby grocery store and buy an apple or something.
8oh man, that cinnomen and sugar pretzel from annie's is so friggen good / bad.
oh man.
anyways, that picture of that mcdonalds is scaring me.
