Kelly Ripa will not only grace the cover of Fitness Magazine this January to show off her super toned mommy bod, she also is showing her support for HEART for Women, a bill before Congress that requests funding for and education about gender-related aspects of cardiovascular health. It's not all serious though, she also fully admits that vanity enabled her to keep working out.
Here are highlights:
On being vain: “A month or two after I started working out, I wore a sleeveless turtleneck to work. Regis was like, ‘Pipa, your arm muscles look incredible!’ it was the first time anybody had ever said anything to me about my muscles. And because I am a vain person, that’s all I needed to hear to stay with it.”
On starting her fitness regime: “I figured, I work in an industry where there’s a stylist and a makeup artist—they’ll make me look fine but I began feeling tired-just playing in the park with my kids wore me down…So I started walking on a treadmill. Then I started jogging on a treadmill. Then I began jogging outside. Now I’m running outside, three to five miles, and taking toning classes.
On her best confidence-boosting trick: “I buy jeans that are tight in the rear end. I’m not kidding. I treat my cheeks like breasts in a push-up bra. I just reach down in there, lift them up and push them together. And they’ll stay put if the jeans are tight enough in the seat.”
On regrets: “I used to smoke, so lung cancer is the thing that keeps me awake at night. I worry, Did I quit in enough time? Did I do it for too long? It’s one of those things where I think, Boy, what a foolish thing I did. I’m not from the generation where you can go, ‘Oh, I didn’t know it was bad for me.’ No. Everybody knew it was bad.”

I really like Kelly. She's so funny on her show with Regis
1Haha I love when people compliment me on my muscules! Makes me feel sooooo good about myself and that going to the gym actally works
2I think Kelly is very funny, but I'm not fond of her figure. It's a bit scrawny and boyish to me. JMHO.
3She has a healthy attitude. I think she looks great.
4yah she seems pretty honest about it. i like that. shes not the type of celebrity to say "oh i just eat doritos all day, its genetics."
5well i don't like her figure
6She's so fun and cute! I LOVE that she adores Madonna =)
She's so fit, and I like that they didn't turn her outie belly buttom into an innie like in that other fitness mag she did.
7I love her too! She's freakin' hilarious! And I love that she represents the short girls!
8I think she is hilarious!
9She is funny and seems genuinely nice!
10Eh, there's something about her that annoys me. And she looks completely airbrushed on that cover. :-\ It sucks that they keep airbrushing the crap out of the cover models into unattainable figures of perfection. Ugh.
11Usually I find her kind of annoying, but I like her quotes.
12I can't picture her as a smoker.
13Hooray for vanity as a motivation for being healthy!
14She generally annoys me a little bit, but I have to admit that the push-up jeans comments just made me giggle.
15I just purchased this magazine at the airport on my way home! i adore Kelly and she really seems to be an "every-woman." I also love how she truly admits her reason for staying motivated, unlike other celebs.
16Love her! I think she's fantastic and I give her big kudos for changing her life around to be healthy (not just skinny and unhealthy), esp. later on in life. She's an inspiration!
And I agree with syako - way to represent the short girls!
17What a good role model for other girls, showing you can lead a busy life and still make time for fitness.
18ok - guys - if you watch the show pay attention to the food segments - she will NEVER eat anythingggggggggggg - she doesnt eat -sorry - i dont know why shes a good role model for other girls.
19that doesn't mean anything. I rarely eat at work either in the mornings because when I get here in the morning I've already had my breakfast at home. Plus I wouldn't want to consume useless calories just because the show has some food segment. You don't know what or when she eats, you can't base it on this one observation.
20im not - i did used to work on the show though
21She is so THIN!
22I met her. When she had her book club, I was called and asked to be on the show. Regis was friendly and funny - she was cold and insecure acting, giving me an actual "who do you think you are" dirty look after a segment because I spoke, briefly. Mom 2 is right. She is very skinny with no butt at all. I mean flat as a board on both sides. What a terrible cover choice for a fitness magazine.
23Just because someone has a flat chest and butt, doesn't mean they're a bad cover choice for a fitness magazine- a girl can't workout her breasts! Some women just don't have curves.
Being flat-chested myself, I admire Kelly for not following Hollywood's boob-job trend...I think she has a great body.
24I think not much of her, for the way she treated Clay, clearly she's a phony! sorry
"stuPid is
as stuPid does"
25She also does a ton of yoga she has a house out by me on Bridgehampton. On Saturdays, I always see her coming out of class w/ a bunch of her friends. She seems really cool...and TINY!!
26If you look closely at the cover it says, "How she got this buff".
Buff!? She looks like a freaking toothpick! Did anyone else notice that?
Also, she looks really airbrushed.
27YIKES! she looks really bad. too skinny. this is NOT buff- this is scrawny. i agree that she is not a good role model. eat girl, EAT!
28I like it when people compliment me on my muscles too...I feel like I earned them and I work hard for them, so why wouldn't I want someone to notice? I don't watch Kelly and Regis, but I do think Kelly is kind of annoying just by reading interviews with her.
29I don't see many muscles there. I think the pose may not be particularly flattering. But good for her for taking up jogging and quitting smoking.
30Ripped? I don't see ANY definition. She's lean but no, I wouldn't say "ripped".
31I'm sorry, but she's waaaaaay too tiny to be healthy.
32I love it that she came right out and said she's vain. I'm vain, too, and it is 100% my reason for working out. I'm sure as I get older I will appreciate the health benfits, but right now all I want is to look fabulous in a bikini and I'm not apologizing for it!
33She has an awesome body-especially after having 3 kids! I think she works hard at it though and probably has quite a healthy diet.
34She's cute
35Yeah I'm also sick of people saying someone isn't healthy or is a bad role model if they look boyish or flat-chested. Hello, some women aren't curvy. I will never have more than an A cup, and when I'm physically active, my chest gets whittled down just like the rest of me. It sucks enough as is!
36Her body is beautiful. She has an active lifestyle and is probably genetically prone to being thin... combine the two and you get a petite woman. Being really petite myself I can't agree with the comments that she isn't healthy because she is that tiny. I struggle to keep on weight and always have but i love working out - It reinvigorates me for my day and with a 7 month old around I know i need to keep active.
AND... maybe she doesn't want to be a size 10, 8 or even 6 with hips, a butt and boobs... maybe she likes her athletic build (AND YES IT IS ATHLETIC).
37Very annoying ugly scrawny interrupting me me me oh and me!
