Being that the Great American Smokeout is this week, I thought I'd share this exciting news for anyone looking to quit.
A new anti-smoking shot that robs smokers of the nicotine buzz from cigarettes may someday offer a new and effective way to quit (though the shot is still in the testing phase). The vaccine works by keeping nicotine from reaching the brain, taking a lot of the fun out of smoking and hopefully making it easier to give up.
This is exciting because it gives anyone who has not been able to quit using other popular methods available now another option to try. Unfortunately it's not available yet so if you're looking to quit smoking today then you're going to have to go about it another way. Here are some tips to help!

I don't think I would inject drugs/chemicals to quit smoking...
1if it works, why not, aimeeb? have you ever tried to quit smoking? it blows.
i'm at about five weeks without a cigarette and not a day goes by where i don't have at least one craving, even with the nicotine patch. anything that makes it easier is worth a try, as far as i'm concerned.
2I agree with krampalicious (just quit about 6 months ago), but isn't taking the nicotine away basically like forcing yourself to quit anyway, since that's what makes it addictive? I mean, it's just like going cold turkey, but without the benefits of *actually* going cold turkey.
3My boyfriend quit smoking, cold turkey, for ME! =)
4Its kind of scary to start messing around with body chemistry like this. But quitting smoking does require extreme measures for some people. I guess if traditional methods don't work this may be a last resort.
5This sounds like it works in a similar way to quit smoking pills like Zyban and Chantix. All of these work on altering brain chemistry in some way, mostly by blocking receptors for nicotine. I work for the American Cancer Society and we always stress that there is no one way to quit. What works for one may or may not work for another. It takes the average smoker 7 attempts at quitting before they are successful. For those of you out there who are ready to quit, know that there are resources out there to help you! 6This is great for smokers who want to quit, but can't. After they get rid of the feeling associated with smoking, all that's left is the habit of wanting to inhale and wanting to do something with their hands.
