Have you ever brought a box of Cheez-Its to the couch with you while you watch TV and realize an hour later that you've eaten the whole box? Yeah, me neither (wink, wink).
This is the classic case of mindless snacking without a predetermined portion size. If you're like me, and occasionally like to snack right from the box then try to stop this habit. Instead take out how much you want to eat, put it on a plate, and put the rest away. If you want more, then go back and repeat the process, but try to avoid eating right from the box. If we keep snacking right out of the box then we don't ever get a visual of how much we're actually eating until we get to the bottom and realize we've eaten the entire box.

1Hey, that's a good idea! Maybe it would help a little with my dad's rice crackers/trail mix/munchies/crackers buying habit.

4And I read this as I finish off a box of Ranch Wheat Thins.. ugh.
5This happens to me sometimes. I need to learn self control.... in a lot of things!
6I am so happy I grew up in a family where we were not eating that kind of stuff. My mother would always make food from scratch with nice raw ingredients and never ever bought snacks, sweets, sugary drinks and that kind of junk, she used to call everything she couldn't make "strange foods". As a result me and my brothers grew up without learning to like junk food and now as a grown-up I pass the junk food sections like I was passing a non-food section. I don't know how the stuff tastes and I don't want to know.

Sometimes I just grab a handful, put them on the coffee table, and then put away the box bu tI should ALWAYS be doing that!
I really don't eat much processed food, I grew up alot like EllaBella. I think the people who make this kind of junk food want to encourage mindless snacking. but I do occassionally overindulge in things like chocolate or homemade cookies. I guess I'm lucky I am thin and in great health. When I do over indulge I figure I must need the extra calories so I don't worry too much about it.
10oh gosh, i am the type to overindulge in a bag of potato chips and i keep snacking until it's almost all gone and i feel like crap afterwards. it happened last night.
11I must say I am so happy to have grown up in France!.. Even if I knew that overweight is a big problem in the US, it is by reading FitSugar posts and members comments that I really realised how poor eating habits many people in the US have and also how much unhealthy junk you have in supermarkets... It is just so shocking...
