I never used to like chocolate as a child, but now I can't live without it. Just a small piece is enough to satisfy my sugar cravings. Plus I feel good eating it, knowing that flavenoid-rich dark chocolate has health benefits like lowering blood pressure, and now a new study shows that it can also increase coronary blood flow.
This study involved a two-week trial and monitored 39 adults (average age 29). Study participants either ate 550 mg a day of dark chocolate or white chocolate. The CFVR (coronary flow velocity reserve) of all the participants was monitored. The CFVR indicates the ability of the coronary arteries to dilate and allow more blood flow, which is a good thing.
The study found that in as little as two weeks, those who ate flavenoid-rich dark chocolate had improved heart function and blood flow, as compared to those who just ate white chocolate. I love foods that taste good and are also good for you, so go ahead and indulge, for your heart's sake.

dark chocolate is amazing, i always keep it handy
1Awesome! One more excuse for me
2Could you add to the story how much chocolate 550mg a day is? Is it a whole candy bar? Or just a Hershey kiss size? Or one of those chunks in the photo there?
3mmmm i love dark chocolate! the darker the better!! hehe ...
4I love dark chocolate. Its so satisfying. I have a biteful every night.
5I've read this before, hooray dark chocolate!
6White chocolate is actually not chocolate at all. Cocoa beans have two components when ground up: the cocoa powder (dark), and cocoa butter (basically the natural oil the bean contains). Most chocolate consists of the flavenoid-rich powder and butter in varying ratios, some sugar, and sometimes some milk (other times added hydrogenated oils - but stay away from this type of low-quality chocolate!). So white chocolate is actually just the cocoa butter, and maybe some sugar, no cocoa powder at all.
7I'm a child prodigy!! I've been telling people to eat dark chocolate my whole life, the more bitter the better!
P.S. White chocolate is disgusting.
8I love that chocolate can be healthy. It's such good news for something so yummy!!! I think having a frequent indulgence can be healthy for the soul, as long as it's not overdone!
