When you are going through your child's candy bag tonight looking for the open packages, homemade foods, and razor blades in apples, I suggest also screening for unhealthy ingredients. Look for and toss out candies that contain hydrogenated oils and trans fat!
Unfortunately, many popular candies contain trans fats. Here's a short list:
- Skittles
- Tootsie Rolls
- Three Musketeers
- Twix
- Snickers
- Milky Way
Don't worry that after screening for trans fats that your child will be as completely treat-less as the children in the photo. There are plenty of treats out there that don't contain these fats. For help in this matter check out this candy breakdown.

Triumph
Conran
Hush Puppies
Skittles? I never knew that. I've transported my sweet tooth to a more sour one.. I'm hooked on grapefruit juice now
1Oh, Tootsie Rolls! That's a sad surprise. I clicked on the long list and Reese's Peanut Butter Cups have no trans fats in them! Gee I wonder which candy I should go ape crazy over tonight!
2are these the 'fun' sizes or normal sizes? I just ate a 'fun' size almond joy and now I'm freaking out that might be dinner!
3Wow, I would have NEVER thought Tootsie Rolls contained trans fat. I always liked them because they were relatively low in fat. Thanks for the tip.
4oh no
you just broke my heart, i can't live without skittles. well, i better find a healthier
replacement.
5I MISS NOT EVEN THINKING ABOUT THE CALORIES,, AND JUST HAVING FUN ON HALLOWEEN...NOW ITS LIKE "HAVE AN EXUCSE TO GET FAT DAY"
OH I MISS BE A KID
OH WELL I WILL WORKOUT OFF TOMMROW AND FRIDAY
6That's a darned shame, I love Twix!
7I been eating bits of kit kats tonight.
8It's one night of fun! Don't be such a kill joy. There is a reason people don't hand out fruits and veggies, it is only one night. You sound like a food nazi.
9oh no! those are like all my favorite candies! :'(
10boo Fit. I love Tootsie rolls.
11I AGREE WITH BAHIACHIC it is only one night,,,and now i am always the reading the nutrtion label i did last night and i feel guilty that i can't even have a piece of candy wit out wondering about tommrow.....
its just one candy!!!!!
12Tootsie rolls? And Milky Way? ):
13I'm a pretty big health nazi but I also realize that if one doesn't indulge ever so often, their head just might explode. If I want some candy on Halloween then by god I'm going to eat it without feeling guilty. Because god knows I never eat it any other time. Have fun and indulge I say. 1 day of eating a bit of candy isn't going to stop your heart.
14I pretty much am not a fan of everythign on that short list
15the only one thats gonna get me is snickers!!
16I was told of a great idea when it comes to kids and candy at Halloween. I don't have kids myself but if I ever do, this is DEFINITELY an option.
After everyone goes trick or treating, you leave the candy on the front porch for the "Candy Fairy" and in return they leave you money or a gift. It works like the tooth fairy and instead of having a ton of candy around for weeks, the kids can get something fun!
17LOL, the empty buckets in the photo, hahaha.
18Snickers?! OH that's my fave!!!
I HATED getting Bibles for Holloween...I was like What the EFF!? lol
19all the stuff I like are fat for me?! just great.
20Razorblades in apples? What the beejesus?!
That's truly sick.
We were giving out mini rolls straight from the packet and in front of the parents.
21Skittles? Noooo! Argh. I really thought they were safe(r).
22What is this "don't be such a killjoy"? "Food Nazi"? Um, this is FIT Sugar, the whole point of the site is to give us a clue.
