Have you heard about Taco Bell's "Steal a Base, Steal a Taco" promotion? This Tex-Mex chain announced that if any player stole a base during a game in the World Series, they'd give everyone in America a free crunchy seasoned beef taco.

Well, since Jacoby Ellsbury of the Boston Red Sox stole a base in the fourth inning of the second game, now anyone in America can show up at their local taco Bell on Tuesday, October 30, and get one free taco (between 2-5 pm).
Who doesn't love free stuff? Free is fabulous, and I'm a sucker for free giveaways, but just because something is free, doesn't mean it's healthy for you. Just out of curiosity, want to know how much saturated fat, cholesterol and sodium that free taco will get you? Then read more

Well I have to say that I'm quite surprised. I was expecting this taco to be ridiculously unhealthy. It is a little high in sodium, but it actually has 3g of fiber, 8g of protein and NO trans fat. The only problem is that I don't think many people will eat just one of these tacos (it's more like two or three). I guess when it comes to food (even when it's free) moderation is a good idea to keep in mind. |

Taco Bell is one smart cookie, or maybe I should say "churro." When baseball fans collect their free taco, chances are they'll buy something else and the company won't lose much money. I'm sure Taco Bell is also hoping to hook some new customers to their irresistible cheesy food.
Doesn't it seem kind of ironic though, that sports teams are collaborating with fast food joints? The baseball players are working out, training, and exercising their butts off, and America is reaping the benefits in the form of tacos. I know networks need to make their money through advertisements, but couldn't they have chosen something that's a little more healthy? What do you think about Taco Bell's marketing scheme?

Friday November 2nd?
1I'm sorry, but I don't see how this post goes along with the theme of this website? lol
2Whoops - no it's Tuesday, October 30. Tomorrow! Thanks Italian Jem!
3Oh wow, people I know will love this!
4Blech...I hate Taco Bell!
I'd rather make my own tacos!
5Seriously.
6That just seems wrong..
7hey, i'm all for working fast food into a diet (wow, that sentence is an oxymoron). it's all about moderation, right? so a free taco could be part of a healthy lunch...just don't get a monster side of nachos and you'll be ok.
i'm surprised, too. i figured the calorie and fat count would be much higher. i'll be getting my free taco as part of my late lunch.
8Eaing even three wouldn't be bad! That's only 510 calories! You NEED that much at every meal especially if you are active! So I don't see what the big deal is! Beans are healthy for you, chesse is it has calcium and protien, and you can put lettuce on it! And the tortilla is bread which is good for energy. If you just ate one you would be on a stavation diet and you metabilism would slow down and you would start feeling awful. You need alot more than 170 calories for lunch! It's OK to eat 3! gah!
9My very first job was the drive thru girl at Taco Bell in the area I grew up in. I don't even want to DISCUSS what I saw that summer. Mostly involving the meat. It has been 8 years since that summer, and very rarely will I go to Taco Bell. If I do, I always order something without meat.
10between 2-5??? Is this their way of not giving out too many tacos because everyone will be at work? That's discrimination!
11You can donate the $ of the taco to the victims to the CA fires instead of eating it. Much better for you and the world.

12yes! score! that's awesome.
13I had no idea that free and healthy went hand in hand. Wow, thanks for making me smarter! It's shocking. I for one am not going to freak out over eating one little taco. *GASP* that's right I'm damn sure going to go get my free taco, I might even order a side of nachos. OMG!
It's called a treat folks. If you exercise and eat healthy one little taco will not kill you or make you fat. I guess I'm just not that obsessive, and I'm glad. I don't think being that obsessive about food is healthy. Just Live a little!
14* I meant 2-3 little tacos in my last comment* Not 1.
15I hate Taco Bell and even though the taco is only 170 calories, they aren't really all that HEALTHY of calories...cheese and beef and a fried tortilla. Yuck. I'll donate my taco to my husband, who will GLADLY eat two of them. He will also probably buy a couple more, because he says "you need at least 5 tacos to make a meal". Ick.
But yeah, there are probably a LOT of people who think this is brilliant. Taco Bell is going to be the favorite restaurant for a lot of people for a while.
16Yay Taco Bell! But Jimboys is better.
17This is a great idea to get more men to eat their beloved junk food! I swear to god, my fiance starts drooling whenever he sees a McDonalds advertisement on the metro and always tries to tempt me into buying McDonalds instead of cooking dinner for us..."it would save time, baby!"...whatever!
Men, enjoy your tacos, I donate mine to you!
18however there aren't any taco bells in boston!!!! well downtown anyway,....grrrrrr
19nice! that'll go well with my 180 calorie amy's black bean burrito i brought to work. not a bad lunch!
20omg, it's just ONE FRIGGIN TACO! why are u guys trippin on counting calories??? sheesh! let it go....just eat it! throw some sour-cream on that mother too!
21I haven't eaten taco bell since high school when a girl in my class wound up in the hospital with a severe case of food poisoning, she was sick for over a week. A taco isn't very hard to make....I think I'll stick to making my own even if they are giving them away for free.
22if the line isn't long, i will get a free taco. but if the line is long, forget about it.
23I love Taco Bell. It's delicious.
24I like those grande nachos ! start a post in my "my tummy hurts" group!
