I've never been a grunter while working out, it's just not me, so I've never really understood the whole grunting thing. I am not saying it's wrong or right, I am just saying I don't really get it and I don't think I am alone since some gyms even have "no grunting" policies.
Well recently I read an interesting article that argued the benefits of grunting at the gym, which stated that grunters experience an improvement in performance. Interesting right? If it's true, then maybe I should think about adding grunting to my routine.
OK, so you knew it was coming... do you grunt at the gym?

no, thank goodness.
1sometimes, it is involuntary
2yeah I grunt when I get my swell on at the gym. It's so everyone can see how tan and buff I am.
"My New Haircut" anyone?
if you havent seen this HILARIOUS video go to youtube.com and type in "my new haircut" you wont be disappointed.
3one in awhile, but its a girlie and quiet grunt
haha
4it's not that hard to grunt.
5No. I personally think it's obnoxious. I just sometimes exhale a little louder, but no grunting.
6I try not too, but when you're working out super hard sometimes you have to! You can't help it
7nope not a grunter! lol
8I try not to but it happens sometimes, especially when I'm doing those pull-ups!
9Yeah I agree - I don't ever purposefully grunt, but sometimes when you're eeking out that last rep you gotta get something moving you. And a grunt will usually do it (of course it is a very quiet and "ladylike" grunt).
Now in tennis, man I love to grunt in tennis, it makes my shots so much more precise and stronger.
10The only time I grunt is on a long move up when I'm drop kneeing or heel hooking. Other than that, I rarely make noise.
11Lots of guys do though.
Take a listen to boxers who are training and hitting punching bags and to the martial arts guys...
12Ok.. maybe when I'm doing pushups. But not intentionally. I'm grossed out by the gym rats who do it so they can showboat!
13I hate those people, that grunt very loudly-esp guys.
14there is a grunter in my gym at work! WHY do you have to grunt every time you do a crunch? or lunge? or pull down exercises? seriously, it's unnecessary and i completely avoid that guy. i can see grunting if you're pressing 250 pounds, but during a crunch? one after another? geez.
15I'm not a grunter, but I do mostly cardio, not lifting.
16Nope, I don't. There's a guy at the gym that does it ALL the time. It is so annoying. It's not just a series of punctuated grunts, it's a long, agonized, sustained grunt:
*lift* AHHHHRrrrgghhhHHHAAAA! *release*
*lift* AHHHHRrrrgghhhHHHAAAA! *release*
repeat 10x
17*lift**strain**red face* nnnnnnnggggg!!! fart *give up* and call it a day
18Ugh... I hate the grunters at my gym.
19No grunting, maybe exhaling loudly sometimes.
20i grunt sometimes and its completely involuntary in unexpected so I am usually just as suprised as everyone else is.
21the prolonged, extraordinarily loud & habitual grunters are very annoying, but sometimes you just can't avoid a grunt when you're pushing your body to its limits.
i used to do yoga in a class with a guy who grunted. i switched yoga classes.
22lol. We had a grunter in my pilates class last week. Of course, it sounded more like sex noises then grunts...
23lmao...Esix!
24I am a big time sigher though.
25I "quietly" grunt when I'm lifting really heavy weights, but I try to be quiet. I think men are worse about this...there's this guy that used to work out in the gym I belonged to that would grunt obnoxiously loud. I have nothing against grunting, but you don't have to be super loud about it.
26hahahah syako that's hilarious! I actually have a girl in my Ashtanga yoga class who makes an orgasm noise everytime she exhales. I try to avoid being near her - its pretty hard to balance with someone moaning behind you....
27lol...I say "oof" and it's embarrassing and involuntary!
28I don't grunt, but I do swear under my breath sometimes, heh.
29I don't grunt but occasionally let one slip when I'm struggling. I dunno why but it helps me get through it.
But I seriously am annoyed by people that grunt continuously. Like they're lifting 100lb weights with bulging muscles... please stick to the weight room!
The funniest grunters at my gym is this body building couple who at one point were both on those ab things, you lie down on and do crunches. And each time they curled they were grunting like made increasing their volume as if they were getting off of it and each other. It was like gorillas going at it. I moved as far away as possible.
30There is a trio of frat boys at my gym (all tanorexic with the gelled hair - yes, just like the guido from "My New Haircut") who grunt constantly. They want all the little gym-rat-girls attention (specifically the ones who wear full makeup, earrings, and perfectly coiffed hair to "work out"), but if someone else were to look over at them who they didn't want attention from (say, me, a sweaty, red-faced person when I work out, who comes in to get what I need to done and get out of there), they give the annoyed, "what are you lookin' at, punk?" stare.
I had it when I went to do crunches the other morning and one of the douches was sitting on the mat, not doing anything, just talking to his boys. I asked him to move, and he said he was "using the space" (he had been sitting still for 15 minutes). Without missing a beat, I turned to him and said, "Are you afraid that you'll mess up your spiked hair unless you have the wall to prop it up?"
I got the death glare, but one of his boys choked from trying to not laugh, and he moved.
