So you've always liked the idea of running a marathon but the problem is you don't really have the time (or desire) to train for a full marathon. It's OK, marathon running is for a specific type of person, so don't worry if you're not eager to run 26 miles in one day. How about running a marathon in a week or so?
Instead of running the full 26 miles in one day, break it up into segments. When you've completed 26 miles total, give yourself a small reward. If you run about 3 miles each time you run, you'll have completed your marathon in 8 days—not too shabby, eh? If you've gotten a nice prize for yourself once you've completed 26 miles, you may be motivated to try to increase your endurance and run more miles in one day. Before you know it, you'll be running ultramarathons, in segments, of course.
Happy running!

I like this idea!
1me too - i never really looked at it like that. also, if you are running 3 miles straight, you are running a 5k every day! running 3 miles without stopping is my goal for now, but once i've hit that, i think i'll use this idea to keep me motivated.
2Great tip - I like this idea too!
3They do this for the Kid's Marathon in Seattle. My son runs at lunch and recess at school. They have volunteers who keep track of how many miles they have done. Once they get to 25 they can sign up for the Marathon which takes place in November around Turkey Day. Then they do the remaining 1.2 miles on the day of. They start at the end of September, so the kids get a chance to run as much or as little in a day as they feel they are able to. My son is up to 15 miles so far! They continue the running program into the Spring at his school, stopping when it gets warm. Last year my son ran over 60 miles for the school year, plus the miles he and I run on weekends! He's bound for a full on marathon when he grows up!
4kiddylnd- That is a wonderful program!! Tell you little boy, WAY TO GO!!!!!
5nice idea!

7I like this idea but I am actually in the process of training for the Houston marathon in January and the Texas Independence relay next summer.
