You might have heard that Lily Allen lost weight using hypnotherapy but have you heard the same technique works for giving up smokes too?
A recent study found that to quit smoking and stay smoke free, hypnotherapy is more effective than going cold turkey or just using the nicotine patches or nicotine gum. Free hypnotherapy was offered to both heart and lung patients after hospitalization, and 50% of the patients using hypnotherapy alone, or with nicotine replacement therapies, stayed smoke free. An interesting aside: a considerably higher percentage of heart patients stayed smoke free compared to lung patients.
If you have had trouble quitting smoking in the past, getting hypnotized could be the answer. If you do smoke, quitting is one of the best things you can do for your health.
I am curious if any of you have tried hypnotherapy for smoking, or dieting? Let me know in the comments section below.

I wonder if this could get that man of mine to quit. Trouble is he'd never agree to go. I wonder if I could try to hypnotize him in his sleep ala the flintstones.
1Mmmm I am really trying here...quitting smoking is NOT easy! Especially when you are a true smoker and you just moved out on your own for the first time and can do whatever you want!
2I quit cold turkey after smoking regularly for a year, and on-and-off for a couple of years before that. It wasn't that hard for me; maybe I was never that addicted?
I tend to think hypnotherapy is BS, but if it works for some people, then why not go for it?
3I'm interested in hearing about this! I stopped smoking with walmart brand nicotine gum. Yes, it tasted gross but this January will be 2 years since I've smoked. I'd like to know about hypnotism to eat healthy and want to exercise more.
4Luckily smoking has never appealed to me in any way shape or form.
I heard this can work wonders for some people.
5I tried it, and it didn't work. One time I literally lit up as soon as I got to the car. The second time, I stopped smoking for 2 days, but started up worse than ever. I eventually quit cold turkey on vacation.
6best way to quit is to never start. Smoking is a nasty habit and it has always boggled me as to why someone would pick up such a thing!
7this is very hard to do! i have seem many people that i love try and do it! and i think its something that you have to REALLY WANT FOR YOU!.. and then its not so hard but if you like smoking then your probably not going to stop anytime soon
8It's so true. You really really have to want to stop; if you aren't really doing it for yourself then it always be tugging at you and making you want more!
9I quit for 2 1/2 years by reading a book called Easy Way to Quit Smoking by Allen Carr I believe. Apparently it is very popular in Europe and I know a few other people who used it and it helped. I even heard Ashton Kutchner talk about it with Jay Leno.
Sadly, I started again, but I am planning on rereading.
10I honestly believe that you have to WANT to stop and feel that it's the right time for you to quit. If your heart's not 100% in it, you won't be successful. I made half-hearted attempts to quit over the years, but was not successful. I finally decided I had had enough almost 2 years ago and had no problem quitting...I believe it's because I wanted it and I wasn't doing it because I felt like I "had to".
My sister is still a smoker and she recently tried a form of hypnotherapy. She's tried to quit several times too, but doesn't really WANT to...I know and she knows that she's not 100% committed to it yet. So the hypnotherapy didn't work at all for her. I don't think it's BS, but I think you have to be in the right frame of mind for it and really want it for yourself.
11both my dad and my uncle (not related) quit using hypnotherapy! and they both smoked for over 15 years.
12i can't speak to hypnotherapy but i tried acupuncture and was not successful. however, i have been smoke free for 10 1/2 months now thanks to wellbutrin. i know many people don't advocate drugs to help get off of another drug but this has been one of the best things that could have happened to me...
13if you read the article a little closer, it doesn't actually give the statistic for the success rate of hypnotherapy on its own. It gives the total of successful quitting with hypnotherapy with or without nicotine replacement. It's already been proven that multiple methods are necessary in order to produce a successful quit attempts; I wouldn't be surprised if the highest success was found for people who received hypnotherapy combined with nicotine replacement. Meanwhile, other studies have completely disproved the effect of hynotherapy on quit attempts.. but i think people need options rather than limitations, so I am all for whatever a smoker will think works to help them stop smoking for good!! PS. I am nearing my 8th month mark. woo.
