Here's a great snack that requires a little bit of planning ahead, but after you've done the prep, it's a cinch to make.
To make this Banana Ice Smoothie:
- Peel several very ripe bananas
- Break them into 1-inch pieces
- Freeze the pieces in a sealed plastic bag
- Just before serving, put a few pieces in the blender with a small amount of water, juice or milk
- Serve immediately
You can add berries for a different flavor or top with fruit or nuts. YUM.
Why we love it:
Bananas are high in potassium. And this is a fun way to use up ripe bananas, without making yet another loaf of banana bread. Plus, how often do you get to use that blender you got from your wedding?

Man I wish I liked bananas cause i bet this would be yummy!
1That's so funny that you mentioned "The blender you got from your wedding." I don't have a blender yet - I've been waiting for my wedding!
This sounds very simple and a great treat for the kids. Does anyone know how long bananas keep in the freezer? Like, could you cut up your bananas when they get too ripe and then make this, say, a week later?
2Bananas will keep in a freezer for quite a while. They are good for making bread or smoothies. Just like anything else, though, once they get frost bite it's time to pitch them.
3Thanks, Tina!
4Yeah, just make sure you peel the bananas before popping them in the freezer. The first time I tried this, I just put 'em in as is, and it was tough to get those pesky skins off.
