Exercise injuries happen. It is just a workout fact. You expect to tweak a muscle lunging after a tennis ball or diving for a Frisbee. You do not, however, expect to break both of your arms using an exercise ball. Sugar user JessNess shared this little news bit with me, and I am passing it onto you.

Inside Edition reported recently that Adam Dunayer was working his upper body while lying with his back on a physio ball. He was holding 60 pound weights in each hand when the ball burst. His elbows hit the ground first. Needless to say, he broke both his arms and has yet to regain full recovery.
Inside Edition decided to put a dozen types of exercise balls through a puncture test. They found the standard ball to pop just like a balloon, similar to Dunayer's experience. However, when the anti-burst ball was punctured the ball began to hiss as it gradually deflated. So when working with a physio ball look for a thick skinned one that is less likely to puncture as well as an anti-burst style ball.
Regardless, keep on rolling!

note to self: never get as skinny as the woman in that picture. I can count her ribs, gross.
1Can I just say... ouch!
2My sister and I are on the market for a ball as the old one has a old somewhere. Definitely will be making sure it's an anti-burst one!
aahhhh! I know it's coming up to Halloween, but we don't need to see skeletons in exercise photos!
3Jesus, I'll stop working out if I'll end up like that!
4I'm with you, funky and squirrelly. What is wrong with that woman in the picture? Her arms and legs actually seem pretty healthy and toned. She must be reaaally sucking in her stomach, or maybe she just forgot to do her crunches ... or to eat?
5I actually had an exercise ball break while doing crunches. I didn't suffer any injuries just a bruised bum and a look of shock as one minute I was in the air doing the crunches and the next I was flat out sprawled on the floor!
6I had an exercise ball pop...but it was because my brother decided to see if the family cat would like to sit on it...
7Who selected that picture? Good lord, she could cut you with one of those ribs!
8I want her legs, but that's it! : )
9I want her legs, but that's it! : )
10I can't ever seem to find a good, decent ball. Mine always seem not quite firm enough. Any brand recommendations?
11Why would anyone be using so much weight (120 lbs.) on such an unstable surface? Why would he not be using a weight bench. I asked my trainer about this and he said that he would never have anyone use that much weight on an exercise ball. He could have been just as injured if he slipped off the ball. He also could have injured someone near him if he slipped off and the weights got thrown. Using that much weight should be done on a stable strong surface.
12I was sitting on my excerceise ball and my cat jumped up and the thing popped like a balloon. I hit my head on my bed frame going down and scraped my elbow. went from sitting to sprawled in literally less that a second. I was in shock, it was like the thing just vanished from under me with no warning.
13I'm less worried about weight bursting the ball and more worried about those ribs...OUCH!!!
14My dog jumps at my ball all the time but she hasn't done anything to that.
FitSugar - that is a horrible photo!!
15I love exercise balls, but I agree with the commenter that said that 2 x 60lb weights is just plain irresponsible. Of COURSE that much weight is going to burst a ball. That guy should've been using a bench; he could've seriously KILLED himself if the weights managed to get dislodged from his hands in surprised and if they landed on his torso and cracked ribs, punctured lungs and OH MY GAWD I'M GETTING FREAKED OUT JUST THINKING ABOUT IT O_O I think the fault in that circumstance lies with the bloke, not with the ball.
And Fitsugar? Yes, terrible photo.
16I'm suprised her ball didn't pop...she looks like she's sucking in everything...you'd think the ball would pop under the pressure!
17Uh ok, im not that skinny if i were reaching over myself like that, my rids would be showing, maybe you guys just have extra padding. its just a photo so chill.
18Some people are just skinnier in the ribs than others. When I workout one of the first places I lose weight is in the ribs which makes them stand out. Everyone is built differently
19Yes but, that model in the picture makes ME want to run out and eat a cheeseburger.
20It's spoooky. You can't tell whether you're looking at her front or back aside from the ribs. Halloweeeeeeen!
