Nutritionally speaking, the beloved bagel is unfortunately one of the worst breakfast foods around. However, sometimes you just need a bagel. For those in their time of need I have created this breakdown of Einstein Bros. Bagels, so you can at least make wise choices when you are there.

So on the off day that I'd actually eat a bagel, I'd most likely get a plain bagel with the whipped vegetable cream cheese for 350, which is pretty boring for 350 calories if you ask me. This is why I typically avoid bagels.

What about fiber?
sometimes you really do just need a bagel
I love bagels...Tim Hortons bagels...yum....
I have to agree, if you eat sensible you can treat yourself. I usually get a spinach bagel with veggie cream cheese.
Other days, its a mini bagel for me with fat free smoked salmon cream cheese.
I have been on the search for a 100% whole wheat/grain bagel that does not contain high fructose corn syrup or just corn syrup. I have yet to succeed in my search!
I have to respectfully disagree - I don't think the bagel is one of the worse breakfast foods around. Off the top of my head, I can think of far worse foods, such as doughnuts, very sugary cereals, bacon, sausage, etc. IMHO, these foods are some of the worse breakfast foods around, as nutritionally, they score much lower than the bagel. JMHO.
Well, I have been eating bagels every morning for about two months now and the scale hasn't moved.
Oh god, I love bagels, theyre such a weakness.
My Ma loved bagels, she ate them all the time and she was a tiny little 90-something pound fiesty italian.
Eeeek I did NOT just read this! Syako I bet you could find fiber content on Einstein's website...
wow, that's shocking!
I stopped eating full-size bagels years ago. They are calorie bombs. When I do have one I have a mini bagel. Satisfying and not too many calories.
oh, the hardest thing for me to give up was my salt bagel. talk about a nutrition disaster! it reminded me of growing up on long island, but all i did was grow out!
wow. 300. for a wheat bagel? i knew they werent amazingly healthy but i thought they were a tad bit better. anything we can do if we must have a bagel. like no spread. choose butter over something or jelly over something else?
I agree with glowingmoon, bagels aren't that awful. And my choice breakfast plain bagel with whipped regular cream cheese would only run me 360 calories. Add some black coffee and its not that bad for a fast food breakfast. It isn't a nutritionally balanced meal, but it won't kill you. And IMO its worth it- fresh bagels are heavenly.
If you're going to eat a bagel, you may as well have an amazing one. There's no point in wasting all those calories on some fast food bagel -- you might as well splurge on something yummy!
I never feel guilty when I eat one of the amazing bagels from the place around the corner from me. With lox and cream cheese, it's worth any amount of calories!
I love bagels! But I limit myself to having them as a treat on Saturdays, gives me something to look forward to during the week when I'm eating my super healthy protein/fiber packed and boring cereal every day.
I rarely eat bagels. So I guess I don't have to feel guilty too often.
einstein's website has all the nutritional information. personally, i don't think it's that bad, if you get the whole wheat kind. and be careful of the ones with toppings. i thought chopped garlic wasn't that bad, but apparently all the BUTTER they use to glue the garlic to the top of the bagel makes it bad. in weight watchers points, it's only one point away from a mcdonald's sausage biscuit. (including the cream cheese).
That's a LOT of sodium!
Better buy a whole wheat bagel that is not bleached or enriched.
yea but sometimes a damn bagel is just good and satisfying for me. Does anyone know why wheat bagels have more calories than plain?
Wow...just one occasionally with a little whipped lowfat cream cheese will have to do! I do love Einstein's.
Moonischasingme, have you tried the Trader Joes Sprouted Wheat bagels? According to the back, no high fructose corn syrup or corn syrup at all
omg bagels are totally my weakness...i could probably down five easily
wow lol My fave bagel is the WORST ONE!
I love einstein bagels. Shocking to read how much they have. Anyways, there are no bagelshops in Germany, I am looking forward to
my next trip ino the states. And there I will pamper myself with one. Thanks to you I can make it a reasonable choice.
