I love a brisk fall day. The cooling temperatures are a pleasant reminder of the unpleasant weather to come. The inclement winter weather keeps many of us inside, so now is the time to get physical outdoors.
One of my favorite ways to spend time outside during the fall season is by picking apples! Walking through the orchard to find which tree to pick is a similar activity to hiking. Climbing trees in search of the perfect apples is great work for your arms and legs, plus it's fun! Carrying bags of apples out of the orchard is a great way to challenge your arm strength. Picking your own apples is a workout with a tangible reward at the end – apples and lots of them.
Pack a lunch and you can have a romantic picnic with your honey. Picnicking and picking apples is also a great activity for children of all ages. My nimble 4 1/2 year old is an expert at climbing trees and loves the challenge.
Check out this listing by state of orchards and farms where you can pick your own apples, fruits and veggies.

We go to Apple Hill every year (http://www.applehill.com/). It is so much fun, they have tons of great things to do. Good for a date or fun for the kids.
1I love to go walking anywhere
2it's a lot of fun, I've been before.
3thanks for the link to the listing! we used to go cherry picking when i was a kid (so much fun!) but had no idea where to find a you-pick orchard where i live now...
4I just went apple picking last weekend with my parents when they came up to visit. My dad was excited because they had his favorite type of apples for baking pies (and 48 other varieties) They also had fall raspberries ready to go and we picked about 8 pints! Not to mention all the raspberries and apples that made it to our mouths before the basket!
