It turns out that more than half the people in the UK cannot do 20 sit-ups or touch their toes.

Come again? How could this be?
The "not being able to touch their toes" part is especially troubling since this action demonstrates basic flexibility - a lack of which can result in life-threatening circulatory problems and arthritis, as well as joint problems and shortening of ligaments leading to complete immobility. This figure seems absolutely amazing to me, so of course I am curious about you guys. Get on the floor and try it out and record your results below.

Omg...I have to do about 500 crunches a day in my ballet class. So...why are us Americans the fat ones?
1500 crunches a day? WHEW! I thought I was abbier-than-thou with my pilates classes.
Actually, two years ago I could neither touch my toes nor do 20 crunches, so I am really proud to say that today I can!
2We do so much since you use our abs for balance and stability. I definitely could not do 20 crunches back when i started college. I was always pretty flexible since I used to love the feeling of getting all warmed up and stretching like crazy. I still am working on stretching into splits though.
3I don't think being able to touch your toes should be a measure of fitness. This is something you have to pretty much train your body to do through and requires flexibility. I am pretty fit, but I am not as flexible as some people. Yet, I have seen 300lb+ women bend over and touch their toes, but I can't. I doubt this means she is somehow fitter than me seeing as I am 5'3 and 113lbs.
4i can do both, but i can just barely touch my toes. i remember my gym teacher telling me, in high school, that it's because i have "freaky giraffe legs," so that's my excuse
5I can touch my toes now because of a few weeks of yoga, and I can do 20 sit-ups, but only if I do it really slowly.
6i would be worried if i couldnt do both!
7I'm not flexable AT ALL!
8I can do the sit-ups, but I can't touch my toes!
I just did both and it feels great! I want more assignments like this everyday!
9I can do both but I can BARELY touch my toes. Need to work at that
10I did both- thanks for getting me moving this morning, Fit!
11I can do both. That is basic movement skills and I would be very worried if I couldn't do either.
12I can't touch my toes and have never been able to come close despite years of being an athlete and stretching copiously. I just wasn't born with hamstrings loose enough to grant me access to my toes
yes, I have really long legs, it goes with being tall, BUT I also have
really long arms, so I think they offset.
13some people have longer legs than their upper body (torso) so this causes them not to be able to lean over as far. If you're constantly stretching and understand where your body is at flexability wise i don't think that it is a problem.
14yay! i can do both!!!
15I can do the crunches easy-peasy; but have issues with a torn muscle from kungfu, so no toe-touching without grunting.
16pheww, there should be more of these surveys! First time in say a year that I did situps
very
bad I know I am just lazy! I could do both, but it was hard work! That said touching your toes was hard, I am not very flexible so even when I was fitter it was a difficult task.
Ok fit, point taking I need to start doing some proper exercises not running to catch my train in heels. Lol!
17I am about an inch from touching my toes, but I can do it if I bend my knees a little.
It's funny, even as a kid I was never flexible...and I was a dancer! I could do the splits both ways with a lot of stretching, but reaching over my legs was never my strong suit. I used to HATE the sit & reach as part of the physical fitness tests.
18I can't touch my toes.
But I can do the sit ups.
19I can go way past my toes so I'm good there.
I can also do the sit ups but it's hard.
20I can touch my toes, but the upper part of my stomach (right under my ribs) still has a bunch of scar tissue from surgery a year ago. It's been so long, but even now I can feel it under my skin. It hurts like CRAZY to do sit ups. Don't suppose there's a way to help with gnarly scar tissue, Fit?
21I can still do both but my scoliosis handicaps me from doing both to the fullest extent that I KNOW I can.
22I can go flat hands on the floor. (I am currently trying to get further down on my splits).
23I can touch the ground and I do 500 crunches a day thanks to my-calorie-counter.com
24finally something I can do..
25i did both
i would have VERY surprised if i couldn't, however, since i am very
active with a mix of cardio, strength training, and bikram yoga . the last is my fave and how i spoil myself! i highly recommend trying bikram for a month if your flexibility range is
limited- it WILL help. it is one of the best things i have ever done for myself!
26i can do like 2thousand a day and i used to do more than that when i was more into abs.
27I can do both.
I didn't exercise at all really for years. I ate sugar and chocolate and crisps and drank up to 30 units of alcohol a day and used drugs to party etc and I could still do twenty sit ups and touch my toes.
My legs are 33 / 34 inches, so pretty long and i can still place nearly all of my palm on the floor with my legs straight.
I still cant do the splits though, which irritates me. I can fold my feet behind my head, but I cant do the splits! Bah!
