In the last few days I have read some truly entertaining health headlines, which I admit can be quite rare since most deal with serious topics like cancer, mortality rates and the rising obesity rates.
Here are a few stories that may tickle your funny bone and give you a chuckle. Not only is laughter good for the soul, it is good for your blood vessels - so read on!
"Seniors balk at ban on free doughnuts"
Wearing signs that declared "Give Us Our Just Desserts" and "They're Carbs, Not Contraband" seniors demonstrated their displeasure with the decision to refuse free sweet treats. It seems that doughnuts, pies and breads that were being donated to senior centers around Putnam County, north of New York City were being turned away citing health reason. Reminds me of the birthday cupcakes in public schools debate. - MSNBC
"Cookie Monster curbs cookie habit"
It was only a matter of time, wasn't it? His character driven jingle "C is cookie and cook is for me" will be replaced with "A cookie is a Sometimes food." Cookie monster has joined the battle against childhood obesity. It is only a matter of time before he starts downing the Brussels sprouts. - The BBC
"Zoo always gets this big request"
This article reveals that it is NOT true that zoos have large MRI machines that can used by folks too large to fit in hospital sized machines. We were all lead astray by that episode of Scrubs where JD takes one of his favorite, and overweight, patients to the zoo for an MRI! - The Houston Chronicle
"Students sell banned junk food on Facebook"
Looks like the ban on junk food has inspired a black market at a Canadian high school in Winnipeg. In response to the strict policy that limits vending machine fare to only healthy drinks and snacks, students have gone "underground." Using their lockers as storage and the social networking site Facebook to advertise, student are selling soda and candy bars. I can't help but think these industrious kids could help the seniors with their doughnuts! - Canada.com

blackmarket junk food...i love it! i ate nothing but junk food in high school, so it is nice that the temptation is gone for some students. i liked the carrot and veg dips trays they had in the cafeteria during breaks but most of the time the only thing i could afford were the cookies.
1Of Course the PC police Rips away more of my childhood by cutting cookies back from Cookie Monsters diet. Are you serious? I didnt eat more cookies because he did, and if parents cant control thier own friggin childrens food than something is the matter.
GIVE COOKIE MONSTER HIS COOKIES!
Child hood obesity begins and ends with parental responsiblitiy not fictional puppets.
2Cookie monster is not responsible for childhood obesity. I think that taking his cookies away is INSANE. Why aren't parents taking responsibility for their children's health, instead of pointing fingers at puppets??
3LMAO @ the banning donuts at the senior center. C'mon, these people are old--let them enjoy their last years on the planet and eat their freakin' donuts.
And NO ONE should mess with Cookie Monster. He was the best! I remember watching him eating the cookies on Sesame Street. I never, like, craved cookies after that...mostly, I just wondered how a puppet could eat cookies and if Cookie Monster really ATE the cookies or if he just chewed them into crumbs.
4if i was 80 and they didn't let me have my sugar- i might kill someone lol (actually now i might do the same thing!!) i love my baked goods but its not like they are all i eat. if you've managed to survive 80+ years on this planet then you should be able to eat whatever you want!!
as for cookie monster- you've got to be kidding me! that's ridiculous lol i loved sesame stree when i was little and i doubt the reason i like cookies is cause cookie monster did! my mother only let me have two cookies for dessert anyways- so its not like i sat there eating a box of cookies cause he did!
people are way over sensative these days- trying to cut out anything and everything. let people live!
