MSNBC recently reported that eating 1.5 servings per day of red meat may double a woman’s risk of a common type (hormone related) of breast cancer compared to those who eat fewer than 3 servings per week.
Furthermore, they say that two new studies suggest that vitamin supplements will do little if anything to protect her heart.
Fit's Tip: I'm not saying it's time to turn vegan, but if you are a steak a day type of girl it may be wise to cut down your intake since red meat not only can raise your risk for breast cancer but it can also be very high in fat and calories.

Fit , do you recommend serving sizes ?
I would think the a 6 oz steak is about right, any thoughts?
1I heard that a serving of meat should be no bigger than your closed fist. I eat red meat about 1-2 times a week.
2A serving is an ounce. 1 oz of meat (red, white, dark, etc) has about 7 grams of protein in it and 135 pound person needs about 50 g of protein a day so. . .about 7 oz of meat per day.
Keep in mind that there is protein in just about everything (breads, cereals, dairy etc)
3AND that some proteins are easier to digest, such as Whey Protein.
4Thats true but it really has nothing to do with the Calorie or quality ot the protein
5I was saying that because Whey contains little or not fat, no cholesterol and it could be another option for those who want the protein, minus the bad stuff. I sometimes drink Whey protein shakes.
6Think about chicken, fish, egg whites, or even beans and rice, all foods that are high in protein that have little or no fat/cholesterol and they have absolutely nothing to do with whey.
I may be mistaken but i think whey is only naturally found in milk protein. The only time that you would realy need high whey to casein ratio is when youre an infant and cant digest casein.
As someone who is about to graduate with a degree in nutrition, I think whey is over-emphasized by supplement companies. A person only needs so much protein a day and the extra protein is (surprise!) peed out or converted to fat. So all that extra money you spend on whey is either making very expensive pee or fat. This obviously doesnt apply if youre a vegetarian and the sources of protein in your diet are limited (but since Whey is from milk I would assume that its off limits to vegans)

10Hey Gang! A serving size of red meat is roughly equivalent to a single hamburger or hot dog.
