I'm annoyed. No, I'm pissed actually. I go to the gym to workout. I go during my lunch break, and I don't have a ton of time to dilly dally or lolly gag. When I go to the gym, I mean business, so excuse me if I don't have time to chit chat.
Well it's not that I don't want to make conversation or be social, I just cannot stand guys that try to pick girls up at the gym. I have been a "victim" a few times, and I have to say I'm slightly flattered, but mostly ticked off. Some guys are just such idiots. They see a woman in spandex, and they immediately think the woman wants to go on a date. News flash sweaty guys at the gym -- not all women want to be picked up. I may be wearing a sports bra, but last time I checked it didn't say "Please hit on me."

It actually makes me not that psyched to go to the gym, which is not cool at all. Exercising is such a huge part of my life. I need it for so many reasons, and I shouldn't be discouraged from going because of a few obnoxious guys. I don't want to seem like a b*tch when all I really want to do is workout and get out of there. Can any of you ladies relate?
There is something that makes me feel a little better. To find out what it is read more
On a side note, this aggravating situation totally reminds me of The Inappropriate Yoga Guy my friend GiggleSugar told me about. Whenever an annoying guy tries to talk to me while working out, I just think of this and it makes me laugh out loud.

At my gym, the evenings are the worst. There will be 3 or 4 guys "using" a machine, but they are basically sitting around shooting the s**t and looking at girls, with the occasional exercise thrown in...so annoying! Glad my hubby comes along because when I tell them to get the hell out of the way, he's got my back, haha!
1Another reason I cant stand the gym...there are many. I know there are girls who luv that annoying aspect of guys hitting on them...or at least it seems that way. I make do with my workout dvds and running outside...
2I joined a university gym that was near my house. It's a great facility so I was excited. But, ugh, after a couple of weeks, I just couldn't take it. Sweaty college coeds seriously treated it like a singles meet and greet. There were people flirting on the treadmills, flirting on the mats, flirting by the weights, etc. It was just crazy and distracting and annoying being approached by guys.
3I'm thinking about joining Curves. I'm pretty sure there's no flirting there. ha.
This is another reason why I like working out at home. I used to go to the college gym on campus and it was EXACTLY like your experience, mabess. The girls would do their hair and makeup and stuff before working out, just so they could "look hot for the guys". Barf. I always just wanted to work out and get out of there. Then there were the whiny girls that would get on the elliptical machines and put them on the lowest setting and just go as slowly as possible while they talked to each other, whined about "how hard working out is", and putzed around on their cell phones.
I also hate it when I go running and idiotic guys honk their horns at me, tell me to flash my boobs, or whistle. It's pretty annoying.
4Well, actually, I work out really early in the morning, when everybody there is about business. I just make it a point to miss social hour in the evenings.
5Haha Spectra, I think we went to the same school!!
Anyway, I just keep my ipod on the whole time I'm at the gym, so no one will come up to me.
6Oh man.. I don't actually mind it so much?
I mean, I barely ever get approached so it's OK. =)
My gym just doesn't have that culture I guess??
7My gym is a tiny room in my neighborhood's recreation center. I'm always the only girl in there, but at it's most crowded there's only like four guys there. I've never had a problem. They're always very polite and respectful and I've never noticed them staring or anything, which is nice. I feel lucky that I don't have to go through what you guys have to deal with!
8What? Does that mean that no one wants to hit on me? I've never been approached or hit on and I don't think my sister or my friends have either! The only people hooked up are all the gym instructors! One of the reason why i chose a mixed rather than women only gym was to perv... so I can't really complain as long as they are staring subtly!
9YES!!! It is beyond annoying! I always go before work and am on a time schedule. I used to think that the ipod would protect me... not anymore... it doesn't even phase guys anymore that you can't hear them. They'll ask you out anyway, expecting you to stop your workout AND your playlist. Boo!
10what about girls wearing a lot of makeup and huge hoop earrings? (how can they be comfortable?) oh and long hair loose instead of the ponytail while on the elliptical machine going really slow trying not to sweat. that annoys me more than the guys staring at my behind.
11I agree, i don't like being bothered when im at the gym either.
12I suffer from b*tch face. So it come in really handy at the gym.
13me too, frockoff! no probs here!
14I 2ND THAT BAELOTUS, DON'T FORGET ABOUT THE GIRLS FALLING OUT OF THERE SPORTS BRAS. I HAVE WITNESS A GUY BENDING OVER LOOKING AT 1 GIRLS UNDERWEAR.
15I normally just work out at home, but last year I started going to our university gym with my friend who was in varsity volleyball. So, I was doing leg extensions, just starting actually, and a guy approached me... I was just like, "Sorry dude, I just got on here." There was another leg extension machine right across from me. Unoccupied. Ugh.
And yeah, the other peeve was there as well. Girls staring in mirrors. One girl went on the treadmill, walked for five minutes, and then primped in the mirror for then. It was an impressive display.
16The last time I joined a co-ed gym was in college. I joined it with my mom.
Of course, one of the older (I'm talking all gray, in fact, white haired guy.) body builders thought he would correct me on my form & he used his hands to do it. You know, one of the touchy-feely gym rats....not a trainer. Needless to say, my mom saw it & put him in his place before I even had a chance to speak!
I next gym I joined was a woman only one!
17Oh crap, what I was going to add was...there is a flip side.
My sister met her husband at the gym. He hit on her & it must have been something, because they have been married for 19 years now!
18I'm with you all! I've seen the happy hour at the small gym I used to go to. It was great during the day, but come 5pm, it was PACKED. Which was really annoying b/c there were so many people there talking and not working out (yet still on the machines!) that you had to wait to actually get on one. I've seen the guys oggling and I've seen the women who come in full body armor ready to get noticed (how is that comfortable and why is it that women dress to the nines to workout/socialize/get picked up and yet the guys still look like they just rolled out of bed?)
I still workout with the same company, but have found a bigger location closer to work so I don't have to go to "happy hour" anymore!
19I go to a big chain gym and getting hit on is an obnoxious daily reality. I think my personal best was when I told a guy to leave me alone that I only go to the gym to work off my love for beer and fried food.
20I hate hate hate going to the gym for this reason. I find that I'm pretty good at giving them my evil glare and that works quite well. If not I have some pretty crazy rock music I listen to working out so I just turn it up so loud on my headphones any attempt from them to talk to me is well, useless.
21Alright ladies... Can't talk for all those extra perseverant men, but the easiest way to avoid flirting is wearing earphones or just talking on the phone (I don't get that one). It makes you seem inaccessible.
