I didn't always have asthma. When I went away to college and came back home for Thanksgiving, that's when my symptoms began. I sadly developed allergies to the kitties I grew up with, and it triggered my coughing, wheezing, and chest tightness. It's pretty common to develop adult-onset allergies for a variety of reasons, and I guess I won the lottery when I developed both allergies and asthma. It's well-controlled with daily medicine, so I rarely notice symptoms, unless I have a cold or end up in a room filled with pet hair. What about you?

I have had allergies all my life and just a few years back developed asthma. I usually only have problems breathing when I get a cold or sometimes when I work out. I still carry my inhaler with me in my purse almost everywhere just in case.
Yup, I developed itearly in college and noticed it because I was an athlete and was getting slower and huffing and puffing doing things that should have been easy, I was lucky it started mild, it got moderate to severe by the time I was diagnosed. The good news it it's really well controlled now and I was able to drop a lot of time in running and become an all american in cross country
I suffer from exercise induced asthma. I have to use my inhaler every time I exercise. It's kind of a pain but it's better than not being able to breathe!
Sure do... since I was young. I take Advair daily to keep it under control.
same exact thing happened to me fitsugar!
The colder weather is aggravating my asthma big time, but I'm hoping my lungs will soon get used to it. I've also been trying to lower my medicine intake to every other day, and so far, I've been wheezing and coughing a little, but it's much better than I expected. SOmeday I'd love to be off medicine entirely.
I had a bad case of pneumonia when I was 8 and after I recovered, I had exercise-/illness-induced asthma for a long time. I couldn't run or do anything terribly athletic because I'd get an attack. Once I decided to get in shape, I started walking regularly and slowly incorporated running. Surprisingly, my asthma symptoms went away almost entirely. Now, I have an inhaler that is strictly a "rescue" inhaler, but I rarely use it.
My asthma only flares up when I have a cold or totally stressed out.
I never had asthma, but when I got a cold or worked out I would have trouble breathing and since my brother had asthma, I would use his inhaler, and now I think I've become to dependant on it (is that possible) now I use an inhaler regularly because I'm always short of breath.
No- but I was told I might have eczema because it is closely related to asthma, which my mom does have. And I didn't start having eczema symptoms until my sophomore year of college.
