It's that time of year when dry coughs begin to interfere with sleep. You lie down and start coughing, and the coughing keeps you up. Never fear, there's a natural fix for the problem: honey.

The amber liquid has been found to ease nighttime coughs. It is believed that honey helps ease coughs for a variety of reasons. Not only does it soothe sore throats because it is a humectant, helping trap moisture where it is needed, but honey is also high in antioxidants and has antimicrobial effects. Try a teaspoon before bed and see if it helps.

This is so true..I always have honey when I have a cold.
1I think it is important that you clarify that it is REAL honey, ideally, raw honey, that will help a cold - a lot of honey is just glorified HFCS and other bad additives.
2My younger brother just taught me about honey for a cough - it really works.
3This makes me sound like such an old lady, but when I'm feeling sick, I love to warm up some milk in the microwave and add a teaspoon of honey. It is surprisingly comforting!
4I love honey in hot tea when I am sick! I also like honey on pears, yum!
5Honey is seriously an amazing natural ingrediant. I've used it in tea for coughs & sore throats, but also like it in my oatmeal or while making honey mustard chicken!
6Vanonymous, I agree about the honey and milk, tasty and comforting. Honey for a sore throat and coughing was my mom and grandma's cure all.
7Ok, so I've never even heard of "fake" honey that is HFCS with flavoring added. I always get apple honey from the apple orchard in the fall and it's great stuff. I like it in tea when I'm sick. It's amazing.
