Kelly Osbourne's bod is on its way to "sick" status, thanks to her stint on DWTS. She's noticeably shed pounds from her middle, giving her an ultra-trim waistline that she's proud to show off. In fact, costume measurements for the show reveal that she's lost two inches from her waist.
Still, while she's focused and committed to getting in shape, she's not about to become a slave to the scale, noting that, "[if] I start weighing myself, I will start being like, 'Maybe I shouldn't eat so I could lose some more . . . I would get obsessed with that fact that I was losing it and I would keep at it."
Rather than fixate on pounds lost, Kelly's all about how dancing has helped her firm up, adding that, "I suddenly have muscles in my stomach that I never had before. It's all hard and it never was like that." Kelly's positive attitude and realistic weight loss goal is definitely something to be admired — clearly, she's found what works for her. But tell me, does weighing-in help you track weight loss, or like, Kelly, is it better to chart your progress without relying on the scale?

I do weigh in. It helps me see where I am and keeps me accountable for my choices. I could just take measurements, but the scale has never made me want to stop eating.
1I just go by my clothes, if I used a scale, I would become obsessed with a number.
2I weigh myself because I do think it's important to have a real, tangible number to go on when trying to lose weight and I try not to obsess but I also know that if I'm not losing anything, I'm probably doing something wrong with my eating or exercising so I take that as a cue to switch up my training, cut my calories slightly, etc. and then I lose the next week. If I didn't weigh myself weekly, I wouldn't know whether or not what I was doing in that moment was working because obviously it takes time for measurements or clothing sizes to change.
3I never weigh myself.
BTW, if Kelly lost all this weight just from doing Dancing With the Stars, doesn't that sort of negate all the stuff we've been hearing this week about how weight loss is more about food than exercise?
4I do weigh myself occasionally just to see if I haven't gained or lost more than 5 pounds which is my cushion. Otherwise, I just base it on whether my jeans fit since I gain weight stomach first.
When I was seriously trying to lose weight, I only allowed myself to weigh in once a week. Otherwise I get obsessive
5I've been working out and eating better since around Labor Day, and have not gained or lost a single pound. literally the scale has not moved. that said, I have gone down at least one pant size and my body shape is entirely different.
6ahh posted before I was done. so, YES I do weigh myself periodically (about once a week), but I am ok with sticking at my current weight but continuing to tone up and feel/look better. who cares about the number?
7chloe bella - i think she's mostly toning her muscles, not necessarily losing lots of weight. if she turned a flabby belly into hard abs, her weight may not be drastically different even though her size is.
to answer the question, i haven't been on a scale in probably 5 years. i was really mentally affected by the number... i loved seeing a lower weight even tho it had nothing to do with being more fit, and conversely i was upset by weight gain even when it was muscle and i looked thinner. i still fluctuate a little, but not nearly as much as i did when i was constantly monitoring my weight in numbers. belts are much better measuring devices for me
8I weigh myself once a week to accountable for my food and exercise choices. It takes too long for my clothes to feel tight if I'm gaining.
9and chloe bella - she's dancing hours and hours a day. so that is a factor as well.
10Weffie - you're right, but that was my point. Most people have the goal of losing fat and inches (not just an arbitrary number of pounds), and I think this shows the value of exercise.
11I weigh myself as well, but I also get measurements done by my trainer. I don't weigh myself at home, I only weigh at the gym on measure days. We do both tape measurements and pinch measures.
I think it's best to use what works for you personally. If you like the scale, great. If not that's fine too.
12I've never had an ED - but I know myself well enough to know that weighing myself frequently would lead to one.
It's my competitive nature. Right now I'm 6 foot two and 150. I've starved myself in the past to get down to 145, for the challenge of it. I could keep going if I wanted to, but I don't. Generally, I run for 900 calories a day, eat what I want - but always healthy things. I stay away from junk food. When I do weigh myself every other month or so - it's always the same. It's best for me.
13I think this question is completely based on your own personality, and how you handle/manage weight fluctuations.
I know that the scale, is what keeps me accountable. I get in stages where I'm putting on weight, and I KNOW my clothes don't fit, but I buy a new size. Or I switch to stretchy skirts. I REFUSE to go on the scale when I'm in this pattern, bc the second I see the number, is when I snap back into it.
That said, when I'm focused on my health, I look forward to my weekly weigh-ins, as they keep me accountable and focused.
14I only started weighing myself regularly this year. I can get a little obsessive about the scale, but the number I try to focus on is my body fat percentage.
15No scale for me. As long as my clothes still fit weight or number of pounds is no concern of mine.
16weighing in helps me to pat myself on the back when I see what I like. when I don't see a good number I don't need a scale to know I am not treating my body well... I am a grown woman and know when I eat too much junk and don't exercise enough.
17and they still say exercise doesn't help you to lose weight. For reasons like this I can't get behind those studies.
18I weigh in about once a week, just to keep tabs on it. Normally I go by how my clothes fit, though. Once, just for kicks, I weighed myself twice in one day and my morning weight was like 3 lbs more than my evening weight, so I tend to not trust the scale much. My weight fluctuates a lot on a day-to-day basis.
19I don't notice much difference in my clothes, so I have to weigh myself. My clothes could fit me fine within a 15lb range...way too much to risk.
I am a little obsessive about the scale, I love seeing a low number and every time I lose pound I move my goal another pound lower. The good news is I'm eating healthy and would never, ever consider anything like not eating at all or bulimia. So I'm not worried about my obsessiveness.
Also, I'm the kind of person that lives in denial sometimes, even if I know I've gained, I won't act on it and adjust until I get proof I've gained. When I didn't have a scale I got to my heaviest weight.
20Sometimes I weigh myself, sometimes I don't. I'm pretty close to my goal weight, and I never had a whole lot of weight to lose...so the scale doesn't really tell the whole story. Like, I went down 2 pant sizes this summer, but actually gained 3 pounds!
21I weigh myself on occasion (the scale is not my friend), I prefer to go by waist measurement, because the scale doesn't tell me if I've put on fat or muscle.
22every morning. And I food/exercise log every day too. maybe a little insane but it's how I stay accountable.
23Everybody is different. If that works for Kelly, go her. But for me personally, if I DONT weigh myself, my weight will creep up. I weigh myself everyday at the same day at the same time. It really helps me assess how my actions (food choices, activity) helped contribute to any changes.
24woopsie- I DO NOT weigh myself everyday- that would drive me nuts. I meant every WEEK.
