To me, that cup of coffee in the morning is all about the caffeine. It's my vice (well that and chocolate chip cookies)--but we all have them, right? But I do commend all of you decaf drinkers.

If you like coffee but not the caffeine, soon you are going to be able to remove the caffeine all by yourself.
The DeCaf Company has created a coffee stirrer that will literally remove the caffeine from any ordinary caffeinated beverage. There is a lot of crazy technology involving words like molecularly imprinted polymers that goes into it, but it basically means they have created a super cool stirrer that attracts the caffeine to the stick after just a few swirls round your cup.
Once the new caffeine reducing stirrers are available to the public, decaf coffee drinkers will be able to enjoy the coffee in its original form (without the chemical process the beans go through to become decaffeinated).
Fit's Tip: These are great if you are heading to a friend's party and all she has is regular coffee and you're dying for a cup.

i just recently gave up caffeine and this is kind of big news. however i just don't trust it for some reason. i'd be afraid it didn't work or has something on it i wouldn't want to ingest in my body.
1Does it really eliminate all caffeine? I had to cut out caffeine for medical reasons...if this really works, cool, but would I have 100% assurance that it is working? I wouldn't use it all the time incase there are adverse effects that don't come out for like 10 years, but yay! This excites me!
2Exactly, how effective is it? In my undergrad Chem class we did this whole experiment where we extracted caffeine out of normal breakfast tea and it took forever. I need more assurance that a few swirls will eliminate caffeine. I wouldnt want to be up all night!
3Decaffeinated coffee's like kissing your sister.
4Haha. I wouldnt know...Im not even that into coffee.
5Or my sister.
6
!!!! THAT was good crispy!
7I'm going to ask my husband who's a chemist about this.
Design, OOOOOH he is a chemist? What does he do? I always thought it would be cool to be a food chemist. I saw a program on it on the Food Network and it looked like a lot of fun. You could invent candy flavors and ice cream...yum!
(Ok, I have to run to a mtg right now, to see if I can get a raise, so I will be back to check out your response!)
8He's going for his Ph.D. as an Organic Chemist. I ALWAYS ask him questions. He'd like to get into Sports Nutrition.
9Hes currently studying for his PhD? Good for him! Thats awesome.
10yea. 2nd year, 3 more to go full-time!
11Nice. I hope his dissertation isnt too killer.
12that could be a mean trick to pull on someone who is addicted to their coffee...someone you dont like.... a few swirls when they are not looking and its late night headaches for them.
13oh, that's a great idea.
