Whether you're a fan of daylight saving or not most of us have to live with that fact that it gets darker much earlier. That means if you used to sweat it out after work, you may have to rearrange your schedule and make time for it before your nine-to-fiver. Not too motivated to set your alarm early? Here's something that might perk you out of bed and help you deal with the new studies on exercise and weight loss. Researchers at Bangor University in the United Kingdom discovered that a.m. exercisers work out harder than those who exercise at other times during the day. That translates to more calories burned. Why is that? People tend to be more energetic and alert in the morning, and may also feel less rushed than those who squeeze gym time into the middle of their busy schedules.
That's not to say that morning exercise trumps exercise at other times of the day. If you're not a morning person or can't fit it in at that time, don't force it. The most important thing is to fit exercise in, period, whenever you can.
Tell me, have you switched to morning workouts because of daylight saving time?

I always work out in the morning before I do anything else in my day. That way, I get it over with and I can focus on the rest of my day. Sometimes I do work out after work when I have to be there at 6 am...I'm off work by 3 and I'm able to work out when it's still light outside.
1I prefer to workout in the morning. Wake up - get a good workout in, shower and head to work. I'd rather have my evenings free for relaxing than trying to rush around getting in a workout before bed. Besides the fact that I can't fall asleep if I work out past like 6.
2I'm a morning exerciser, regardless. But since the DST switch, I am more likely to do my runs outdoors than at the gym.
3If I tried to work out before my workday, I would only burn the 1 calorie it takes to hit the snooze button. Later on in the day definitely better for me at this stage of my life.
4weird. i feel like i can't work out with the same intensity in the mornings. i feel like my strength and concentration, etc. is just NOT there. in the afternoons/evenings my body and mind are fully awake.
5My goal is to be able to work out in the morning! It's SO difficult for me! Workin' on it!
6Hmmm, well I guess that will extra motivation to get out of bed in the morning!
7if you read carefully, they burn more calories because they WORK harder, not because working out first thing is a magical calorie-burner.
8so if you'll work harder later, then work out later.
unfortunately, I am not a morning person, so will stick to my evening workouts. I don't think I have ever worked out in the morning, lol. Maybe I'll try it this week.
9Yeah I am definitely NOT a morning person. Even though working out at night sometimes keeps me up, I find it is when I have most energy, thus being able to work out longer and harder.
10I have tried the morning thing in the past, waking up at 4:30 am because I have to leave my house at 6:30 to get to work. I did this for almost 6 months mainly because it was easier to find time if I worked out first thing in the morning. But what I found is that I actually had LESS energy throughout the rest of the day because I was so tired from getting up so early. Now that I have an infant at home, every minute of sleep I can get in the morning is precious to me. Because my work day starts so early, I'm usually home around 3:30-4, so I just workout then.
11That's a load of crap. I work out better in the evenings for sure - I'm also a group ex instructor and I teach better at night too. If you aren't a morning person no amount of telling yourself its better will change things. I burn far more calories when I'm AWAKE and the morning is not that time for me.
12That is strange! I am way more crunched for time in the morning than in the evening. I only have time to do a 30 minute run in the morning and nothing else, otherwise im late for work. but in the evenings, if i'm having a good run, what's another 10 minutes? im in no rush.
13I always workout in the mornings cus I never know what my day will be like.
14I work out every morning 6 days a week and I love it.It gives me energy and I don't have worry about it during the day.Sometimes I work late hours or just prefer to catch up with my boyfriend and my friends at night.
15I am not a morning person and I mainly do weights in the gym which not something you should do have awake or with an empty stomach. The only thing I would do in the AM is cardio which I rarely do.
16I meant to say...weights are not something you should do HALF awake.
17I'm with yoga on this one!
I used to go to the gym in the am, but when I moved to a house instead of an apartment, I could only find time in the evenings. But then I read an article, and the woman said that she would wake up at 4 to get exercise in (a bit extreme I agree) But she said that her reason was that, it was important for her to do something for herself - something good for her and healthy - and that's what drove her to the early morning workouts.
That inspired me, so I decided to start waking up earlier and getting my butt to the gym. I've been going to the gym before work for almost a year now. It wakes me up in the am, I get it over with, and then I have my evening to do some shopping, make dinner, hang out with my honey on the couch watching a movie.. I found that life, to often, got in the way when I was trying to do it in the evenings. And it's something important to me, something that makes me feel stronger and healthier - and that alone makes waking up at 515 much more "worth it".
18Always been a morning exerciser and ALWAYS will be one!! I would much rather get up at 4 am to work out then wait until after my day (4 pm) to work out!!
