You watch Dr. McDreamy and Dr. Grey have extended conversations about love, the future and their future love at the pre-op and post-op sinks.
It might seem like a dramatic device, but they’re really just acting like good doctors by washing their hands for at least 15 seconds.
It seems obvious, but FitSugar wants to remind you that hand washing is the best way to avoid catching a cold or the flu. All those herbs and vitamins help tone your immune system, but killing the germs before they get in you is the best medical advice out there.

Fifteen seconds doesn’t seem like that long but try singing a moderately paced rendition of the Alphabet song (A, B, C, D, E...) while washing. Plus it’s not necessarily the soap that kills the germs, but the friction of rubbing your hands together that makes the germs slide off – the soap is just lubricant. Most importantly, wash your hands before you eat – this includes snacking.
Fit’s Tip: All this serious hand washing can dry out your skin so remember to moisturize.

I was taught to sing Happy Birthday
1That will work too. When I was practicing at home, the Alphabet song was just a little bit longer. But keep on singing, or humming, while scrubbing.

After riding the bus to work in the AM my hands tend to feel a bit too moist and thats not from my Cocoa Butter lotion. A couple drops of antibacterial soap and I'm back to feeling so fresh and so clean!!
3I sing Happy Birthday too!
4Not all hand soaps say anti-bacterial. (Like I noticed my Molton Brown one does not). Do those still kill germs? Or is it just washing dirt off my hands? I have more of a beef with germs than dirt.
5The whole process of washing your hands should take about 2 minutes. Your suppose to be able to sing happy birthday 2 times.
6That's what I was taught in one of my nursing classes, so it's probably a little more hardcore than most would like.
