Almond Butter is one of my favorite treats. A spoonful of it with some dark chocolate chips and dried cranberries is absolutely divine and, not to mention, satisfying.
- 1 tbsp of almond butter contains 95 calories, 8g of healthy fat (this can help to lower LDL cholesterol), no cholesterol, 2g of fiber, and 2.5g of protein.
- 2 tbsp of almond butter contains 86 mg of calcium. Your RDI of calcium is 1,000 mg.
- Almond butter is a good source or magnesium, Vitamin E, and potassium. It's also a great source of selenium, which has been shown to be effective in preventing cancer.
- People who have a peanut allergy can eat almond butter (only if it's processed in a plant that doesn't process peanut products).
- To prevent almond butter from going rancid, it should be stored in a cool dry place until it's opened, and then stored in the fridge after that.

I LOVE almond butter! Mmmmm, especially on green apples!!!!
1i put almond butter in some brownies in place of peanut butter. YUM
2I'm allergic to peanuts AND almonds (however, i can do certain legumes like garbonzo beans and pine nuts...)! SAD! I have had a hard time coming up with any other options. Suggestions, anyone?
3Soy nut butter?
4Yes, Almond Butter is great, and MaraNatha is my favorite brand! Everyone interested should check out my blog entry on Almond Butter in my Healthy Eating group: http://teamsugar.com/group/366709/blog/515038 ...If you like what you read, subscribe!
5i love almond butter, but I hate how hard it gets after you put it in the fridge.
6amybdk - how about sunflower seed butter or tahini (sesame seed butter?). i feel your pain - i'm allergic to peanuts, soy, and most other legumes (chickpeas, lentils)... thank goodness for not being allergic to tree nuts!
7I've never heard of this, is it expensive?
8I've always wanted to try almond butter, but it is SO expensive. It's hard to justify paying $10+ for it when you get organic natural peanut butter for less than 5 in a bigger size.
9Almond butter is the best! I've got my own version of an "Elvis" - almond butter on whole wheat toast with banana slices on top. Breakfast of champions. Also, if you've got a Trader Joe's around, it's not as expensive at around $6.
10We just started eating almond butter not too long ago. It's a little expensive in comparison to peanut butter, so we keep jars of both in the house. AB is so good though. It's almost a little sweet and like a dessert on a piece of toast.
11Mmmm I'll have to pick some up for sure!
12A slice of avocado and almond butter on a rice cracker is divine!
13I love almond butter and cashew butter. =)
