I feel bad for Barbie. After enduring decades of criticism for being too thin and having not of this world proportions, legendary shoe designer Christian Louboutin says Barbie's cankles just won't do for his red-soled masterpieces.
Louboutin is the latest in a line of high-fashion designers to makeover the iconic doll. He's created three head-to-toe looks for her, which even includes a mini Louboutin shoe box. Apparently Louboutin found Barbie's ankles "too fat" and asked her parent company Mattel that she get some work done. It's unknown at this time if Mattel will comply in slimming down the doll's ankles for the designer. The Louboutin edition Barbies are slated to be released early next year.
Louboutin is not the first designer to think skinny is just not skinny enough: model Filippa Hamilton's size 8 body was digitally retouched in a Ralph Lauren ad campaign. The Photoshopped picture shows an extra large head looming over a stick of a body. Ironically this image looks a lot like what Barbie's body would if she was a real woman.
The fashion industry and Barbie have long been cited for making women feel inadequate about their bodies. With this extra slicing and dicing from designers it sounds like this issue is nowhere close to being gone.

If Barbie has cankles, God help us all. He probably thinks she has cankles because she has no calf muscles to speak of, so her ankles can't really be seen in comparison.
1*buahahahahaha* *buahahahahaha*
*catches breath*
*muahahahaha*
This has to be the funniest joke ever, it just can't be real.
Did Barbie ever get the real woman makeover I heard about years ago?
Seriously? A shoe designer is trying to make Barbie's already tiny feet smaller? Bet he wishes it can be done for real women's feet.
Besides, it's a SHOE, it's going to be lost in a week anyway
2Look whos shoes I won't bother buying.
3I'm sorry, but it's way too funny! Barbie's got cankles....LOL!
4Her ankles are too fat, yet no one is concerned that her feet are in permanent tip-toe position?
5I think we'd all be better off if these designers just stuck to using dolls for their models from now on. It doesn't seem like much of a stretch for them to start asking real women to have extreme work done (just think of the nice long waist I would have if only I had a couple of ribs removed!). Boob jobs and lipo are risky enough.
6I generally am not one to jump on the "skinny models and fashion designers are ruining my life" bandwagon, but this quote was ridiculous! How will shoes even stay on Barbie's feet if they're any smaller? Plus, the funny thing is that runway models generally wear a size 9 or bigger, so you would think that if he really wanted to be realistic, he would request that Barbie have not just smaller ankles, but also bigger feet
7mmmm ya this is pretty ridiculous
8The fact that she has 'cankles' doesn't necessarily mean she's fat.. she just doesn't have very well defined ankles.. I guess it's the way she was designed.
9i don't get it... the majority of women don't have ankles as proportionally tiny as Barbie.. what's the point of a shoe designer if he's incapable of designing shoes for real people? reminds me of clothing designers who only make tiny clothes, and blame women for being "fat," to hide the fact that they don't have the talent to dress anything more complex than a mannequin.
10This is ridiculous. Open mouth - insert foot.
I thought Filippa Hamilton was on the Today show yesterday saying she's always been a size 4, not a size 8? And that even though her weight hasn't changed, Ralph Lauren said a size 4 is too big because sample sizes are now a size 2.
11Of course this is ridiculous, but Barbie always did have weird feet and the shoes never stayed on.
And you're right, yogaforlife, that's what she said and I'm more likely to believe her than the changing numbers in all the print articles.
12Dear lord. Don't like Barbie, dont design for her. It's that easy.
You're right darc5204, number of barbie shoes I lost as a kid.
13lol. after her recent breakup with ken, this is the last thing barbie needs!
14Onlysourcherry ~ hahaha
15This is just silly.
16I also thought Filippa Hamilton was a size 4 not an 8?
Oh, Christian.
17I find it funny that a bald, chubby man has anything to say about someone's cankles.
