Recently I came across a new product, The Diet Fork ($8.95 for 10 - buy it here), which is supposed to help one eat slower while simultaneously burn more calories. Here's how:
- Shorter and dulled teeth inhibiting user from grasping larger pieces of food at any one time.
- Smaller triangular shaped surface area allowing dieter to hold less food than many other forks.
- Uncomfortable grip compelling user to put fork down between bites, slowing the user's eating speed.
OK, so basically it's a broken fork that makes it hard to eat. Sound incredibly frustrating to anyone else? I'm curious what you guys think, is the Diet Fork cool or not?
(Oh and sorry for the lame image, but that is all they had on the Diet Fork site.)

that's one of the dumbest things I've ever seen. and yet, there are people who will probably buy it.
anything to make a buck..... lol
ha ha ha ha lol, what will they come up with next?!
I have one of those! It's called a salad fork! DUH! I understand the concept, but come on. Just get smaller forks, and make taking smaller bites and putting your fork down a habit. At $8.95 for 10 you will be forced to take smaller bites because you won't have any money left over for food! I know, go to Costco and stock on sporks! I bet you get 1000 for $8.95!
I think for the average person this is probably dumb but I like the concept of smaller silverware. sometimes you don't realize how much you shovel in! I've started using tiny spoons for ice cream to force myself to eat it slower and it's really worked. Seriously though it looks like your typical spork but I'm sure there will be people who will buy it and not go to the gym.
portion control for me, waaaay before i'd use this! ha!
I think I would get frustrated with it and just go get another fork.
i think it would annoy me more than anything
Lame!
Lame!
Eating should not be painful or frustrating, unless your eating crab legs. : )
smaller silverware = fine, but making it painful for someone to eat????? hasn't anyone heard of portion control and eating slowly??????? I think this just shows overall unwillingness to change behaviors... everyone wants to buy a special tool nowadays.
That is so funny. I would definitely end up throwing it across the room!
cool for someone who really thinks it'd be useful, i suppose.
otherwise, i think self control is WAY more cool.
I wouldn't personally use it, but if it works for people then why not!?
Waste of $$$!
Dumb...total waste.
I eat with chop sticks to slow down my consumption, it is cheaper than this for and way more chic!
I meant fork not for, typo.
It's jsut a new take on a baby fork.
It doesn't impress me at all...
I guess I am definitely in the minority... I think it's pretty neat! I am the world's fastest eater and I know it would help me. And $8.95 is not expensive -- that is like $1.10 per fork, which is what any normal fork costs!
What a waste of money! Just buy some chop sticks, they will help you eat a lot slower!
AmandaG - that is such a cool idea! And just the right motivaion for getting a cute sushi set . . .
I don't mind this, it's the same as using a salad fork or spork, for those purposes. And I think it would help the people that need it.
hahaha this is so silly. i'd probably just throw the fork away and use my hands!
Haha, my husband suggested that they make it out of lead also, so that you could lift weights while you eat dinner and it'd be too heavy to hold for very long - shortening your meal time!
LOL, this is really sad. I don't know. I still like to enjoy eating, even if it is a small portion. I don't want to be uncomfortable while I do that.
handicapped fork to the rescue! hahahaha
I would just get really pissed off and go get a different fork.
That has got to be one of the stupidest things I have ever seen!!
This is soooooo stupid! yet some people will buy this.
It's kind of assuming that you are eating things that aren't healthy for you. When I am eating a salad, I like to use a sturdy fork so that I can stab my crispy veggies. Short-tonged forks won't get through my carrots or pea pods!
rip-off
Reminds me of the "Sporks" in elemenatry cafeterias... I can get on for free.
i remember reading about one of the models who eats with her kid's silverwear... might be a good idea?
This really seems counter productive. If you're trying to learn how to eat correctly, then a broken fork isn't your answer, self-discipline with portion control is.
Can't people control their own eating? This is as bad as having the bread basket removed from the table because you can't stop eating it. It's all about personal responsibility.
someone already invented that. its called a spork.
This reminds me of a gag gift that sells in gift shops/truck stops. It's a "Diet Kit" and it's just a box of broken plastic silverware. Stupid. Eating is supposed to be pleasurable not a Pavlonian experiment.
Total waste of money. People would get way too frustrated with it. It's all about portion control.
I grasp the concept- but don't see the reason why anybody would want too buy this- it is a cool idea, but for gods sake, you get one free with some fries!
Sounds like the lamest idea ever....
