Ever since watching So You Think You Can Dance, I've been envying dancers' bodies. Problem is I don't have the time to take up dancing again and I want to get more of a workout than by just doing a few pliés here and there.

Cardio Barre is a unique class that has been a favorite in Los Angeles among many celebs including Ana Ortiz (Ugly Betty) and Melissa Joan Hart (Sabrina the Teenage Witch). It combines barre work and light weights with a continual fat burning motion. The core of the workout deals with toning and resistance exercises for the butt, legs, torso and arms to sculpt muscles and elongate the appearance of your body.
Cardio Barre is supposed to give you a sense of center and balance that allows you to concentrate on the specific muscle group you are working on. As with most new classes, you’ll actually have fun while getting in shape -- Definitely a plus in my book.
If you don't live in the LA area it looks like they are franchising the class out but you can also buy a portable barre and DVD directly from the Cardio Barre site for your own use at home.

I would love to know if Cardio Barre is good or not. It's seriously tempting to go for that if it is.
1I've heard a lot of buzz about this, and I'm pretty excited about trying it. I used to take ballet when I was younger, and dance does great things for the body! My one concern would be how much space is needed for this workout because my apartment is pretty small. : /
2If anyone knows about this workout and has good feedback, please tell. I am really tempted to buy and try it out.
3Hey there,
4I have been taking Cardio Barre for the past year and it is the BEST CLASS EVER. I have taken everything from pilates to yoga, tae bo, spinning, everything but Cardio Barre completely changed by body. I lost 15 pounds and I have marks in my stomach now, my butt and legs have shrunk down, and my arms look amazing. I can't live without this class, I reaaly can't say enough. It is by far the most amazing workout out there. If you can't make it to the class in Studio City, CA, but the workout dvd's and book. It will change your life. I have brought all my friends and family and got them hooked. You have to try it.
Ok, please excuse my spelling. I really can't live without the class and if you can't take the class in person, BUY the dvd and BOOK!!!! LOL
5Always some new gimmick.
6i have been interested in something similar, called the Fluidity Bar. It sounds good.
7It's not really a gimmick, dance has always been popular (especially for those of us who did it as kids). I danced for 17 years and prefer dance based exercise just because it's familiar and effective. I'd love to take just a barre class but it's not practical (injuries, etc). Pilates was created for dancers and now it's a staple for so many people. Whatever gets you moving.
8I have a Cardio Barre in my apt. When I ordered it, I also got the DVD (which is about 30-40 minutes). Before that I took a class at a dance studio.
My ratings of each:
DVD = NOT impressed and didn't enjoy it as much as the class.
In-person/live class = LIKED IT. Lots of fun, though incredibly crowded the one time I went. I haven't been back but not because I didn't like it. I definitely WOULD go back and plan to as soon as I have a chance. (I do a lot of other physical/fitness things and dance classes, so it hasn't been high on my list.)
Having the cardio barre in my apt. = LOVE IT. The whole reason I even KNOW about Cardio Barre is because I was looking for a ballet barre to have at home, and most of them were either for kids or very high-end/professional (i.e., expensive). So I came across the Cardio Barre, and it turned out to be perfect for what I needed -- which was basically a barre to use for stretching and doing basic plies and other moves at home. It's light (I can lift it and move it aro und easily), and is a double barre.
So basically, I recommend the class, HIGHLY recommend the barre, and could take or leave the DVD.
9I bought the book from Amazon and think it looks interesting. The program is set up sensibly over eight weeks. You add new moves each week as you become more familiar with it.
10I also bought the book, I haven't tried the workout yet but I can't wait sounds fun.
