We all have our own strategies to help ensure that we workout. For some of us it is making an exercise date with a friend. Others prefer to workout alone and consider exercise time "personal time."

How about you...

as with anything, there are pros and cons to working out alone vs. with a friend. going with a friend can get you moving when you might have otherwise decided to sit a session out. also, if you're competitive, you might push yourself harder to out do your workout buddy. however, i prefer working out alone because I like to change machines and routines often, and sometimes on the fly.
If I worked out with a friend I would talk and if I am able to talk during a work out, well...I am not working out quite as hard as I should be.
I work out alone. I see it as personal time.
I work out alone. Like Feesje, I see it as personal time. Also, I can't really concentrate on my work out if I'm talking to a friend.
Working out alone. It's personal time and I can focus more. Whenever I try to buddy up, our fitness levels aren't the same, they want to talk or slow down, they have problems with motivation and generally they don't really enjoy/like exercising or challenging themselves physically.
I have done both and find I focus better when alone and benefit more from not chatting with a friend. Most of my friends are not serious about working out so it is a more social thing for them, but for me my workouts are just for working out.
Usually alone b/c I like to listen to music, and not talk. Sometimes working out with a friend is fine though.
I like to work out alone so I can concentrate and not worry about whether or not I look silly.
It is nice every once in a while to go to the gym with a friend, but we usually end up chattering so much that we aren't completely focused on the workout. I work out best alone.
Technically I workout alone, but I do a lot of group fitness classes, so reaaalllyyy I'm not "alone."
i always go the gym with my boyfriend .clearly we are not on very similar fitness routines so we barely see each other while we are there. but we pass each other every so often and give a good cheesy high five and I feel energized from that. So I get to sweat it out alone to my favorite cheesy pop songs but I still have the support floating somewhere around the gym.
I workout alone! I am one of those people who hate to be distracted because then I will forget my reps and then all is done. Plus, I run around the gym doing everything and the people I used to workout with stayed on the elliptical the whole time and complained because I left her by herself. Music is the only thing I allow during a workout.
I like the alone time and you can't really go at your own pace when you're with someone else. I'm all for company at the cafe later!
for some reason, when I'm with someone, I just get so freaking tired, I don't want to work out. I think it's cuz I get out of that 'zone'...I just wanna leave the gym and get some food when i work out with someone, LOL. If i go with my sister we just go our separate ways at the gym, haha.
i dont really like working out with girlfriends... if they are more fit than i am, i start feeling bad about my own fitness level, or if they are at the same or less fit than i am, i feel like i'm ignoring them when i go into my own little treadmill world. i do like to go to the gym with my boyfriend, though for the same reasons as beegsays.
Always alone. When I work out I like to really focus on my body and how it is reacting to the exercise. Chatting with a workout buddy would really throw me off my groove
I work out at home (we have a Bowflex) alone. When I used to go to the gym, I would work out alone there too, because it seemed if I went with someone, I wouldn't get as much done and didn't want to be rude by putting my iPod on and ignoring them.
the good thinkg about going with someone si that it garentees that i go! BUT the bad thing is that working out is kinda zen thing for me- I like to jsut get in my groove and go. I feel like i get held basck by what other want to do.
I get pretty sweaty and gross working out, so I really like to workout alone. However, working out with a friend does have that motivational perk, but can also drag you down at the same time (for example, they don't feel like working out when you do, so you may be more likely to skip a workout as well). Sometimes I'll switch it up and workout with a friend, but usually I like to be alone.
I like doing both about equally. I'm strong but do not have much endurance while my gym buddy is the opposite. The switch up is how I like it.
If i'm at the gym then i like being alone. If i work out in my neighborhood then I like to have a friend with me.
I like to run, practice soccer, swim, etc. with a friend, but going to the gym is something I'd much rather do alone.
i like to work out both alone and with others... i just HATE being rushed!!! It's fun to work out with someone else when they can push to do more when you feel like going home early.
I used to work out with a friend, but it got too distracting. So now we go to different gyms (my contract was over, so I went elsewhere) and it's just me + my ipod now
I usually like working out with my cousin, we motivate each other but I don't mind working out alone either...with a good playlist on my ipod...I'm set to go!
It depends. Not that I'm unsupportive but working out with someone who's into fitness as well is alot better than someone who's not.
I deffinatley prefer to work-out alone.
I prefer to not work out
Like everyone else, I work out alone because it's my "Me" time, and to ensure that I maintain my level of exercise, not someone else's.
The only thing I do with a friend is go hiking. Otherwise, I need to be alone. I see it as my personal time, plus I can workout however long I want.
I tried doing the partner thing, especially since I hated going to the gym alone...err period, but it seemed that our schedules always conflicted. I pretty much fit in workouts at different times...when I have time(I dont always work the same hours everyday). Now, like the masses, I enjoy working out alone, the "me" time is so valuable, and helps me sort out my thoughts and focus.
When it comes to doing the usual, like running, I like to be by myself. If we're talking kayaking or hiking, I'd rather go with a friend.
I like going to classes with friends, it seems that having someone to commiserate with is good. But if I'm doing cardio, I don't care who is there. I'm in my own little zone.
I used to work out with a friend, but she would always stop before me and act annoyed that she had to wait. Since I was driving, I always felt that I had to stop too. It annoyed me so much that I stopped going to the gym at all. Now I work out at a completely different gym alone. It is way less stressful.
Most def alone. I'm tired of my friends either saying "Hurry up!" or "Slow down!" when or if I work out with them. Its just not the encouragement that I looked for when I take some of them to work out. So, now its just me doing myself a favor. Totally relaxing to go to the next city over so I can go to the parks there. Really nice parks!
alone!
I don't work out.
Alone. Sometimes it's fun to workout with a friend, but mine are unreliable. LOL
It really depends what I'm doing. I like to run with others outside, but if I'm lifting weights or doing cardio on a machine, I really prefer to be alone because I get a better workout.
I prefer working out with somebody. I hate working out alone sometimes.
Nobody ever wants to go!
