Did you know that about seven percent of the population has been diagnosed with one of the types of diabetes?
Contrary to popular belief, having diabetes does not mean that you can not exercise. In fact staying active is a great way to prevent and control diabetes. It just means that you need to approach exercise with extra care, so here are some exercise tips for diabetics:
- Wear well-fitted shoes
- Dress in light clothing
- Exercise after meals, if possible, to reduce the risk of hypoglycemia
- Warm-up (stretch) prior to exercise
- Remember to drink regularly during exercise
- Take soft candy
- Build exercise tolerance
- Do not perform intense exercise without discussion with your personal physician

i hate to nit pick but i think there needs to be some clarification between Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes. People often confuse the two, and they can be very different. Exercise will NOT prevent Type 1 diabetes, for ex.
1As a Type 1 myself, I totally agree with Nikkipez! Type 1 CANNOT be prevented; I got it from a virus when I was 5.
2Thanks for the tips, though.
what does wearing light clothing do??
3Light clothing makes it easier to move around . you dont want heavy clothing to bunch bind and enterfer with your pace of workout.
4I am a type 2 non insulin dependent I take oral meds. I was toold in may of 2005 It has to do with my weighteverything else that usually accompanys diabities i dont have. so this is a weight issue and diet and excercise is the way to go.
